I stopped playing a long time ago because of a bunch of mistakes I made with my old town and I became frustrated and bored with it... I finally decided to create a backup of my old game (in case I ever want / need to restore it) and created a new game which I'm loving! I discovered save editing which I'm having a lot of fun with, creating my perfect town with less limitations than I had before (Isabelle always telling me I can't build something somewhere when there is clearly enough room) and re-collecting all the fish and bugs <3
I've been known to take month or year breaks from the game because I'll binge on it and not have any desire to play. So I'm trying not to binge on it right now. xD

Bored of the game. Simple as that. As far as stuff to do in the game there's not much new to do, not much in the way of money making ways, and it moves in such a slow pace that it gets boring. When I play, I have to do the TT to catch up method. I'm at 1 year and about 3 weeks behind.
I hate that you need so much freaking money. I kind of want to restart town 2 but after pumping so much money into the houses, I just can't do it. I have 4 houses, all at least 3 expansions in and at least 2 of the houses are 5 or 6 in. The only money I've used from outside sources on said houses is 1.2M I made selling photos.
i've had pretty long breaks scattered throughout, haven't really played at all since hhd came out but i'm sure i'll be back on new leaf soon enough, also if a lot of uni work is piling up i tend to give it a little rest
First time I took a break from it was when I lost my first save game because of a dodgy SD card...I got it on release in 2013 and in November the same year I lost all my progress and stopped for a while because of that! ;o
A couple years ago I took a long break due to school. Now I am sort of on a break because of school again and I am playing Happy Home Designer. I'm also having a hard time deciding what I am doing with my town so that makes me want to play less since I feel like I don't have much inspiration.
I had to stop ACNL last year because I was essentially using it to keep my mind off of a bad breakup, and it became a very bad addiction. You would not believe how obsessed I was with this game. I also kind of stop here and there because of college and because I lack the wifi to even trade with other people. Trading is one of my favorite aspects of the game. I will probably stop after I have almost all of the badges.
I stopped playing for awhile since I just couldn't find the time. I maybe played an hour total a week; villagers moved in and out so many times in the process my town became a total wreck, so I started playing a lot more. I still don't talk with them much though, so they still move in and out and smash my things. The good thing is they're starting to plot in the same area now without my forced assistance for hours on end.
I also took a month long haitus last year around this time because of school, and I plan to take one this month again.
Ive gone a two month hiatus before and that was because of school & work. I knew that once I go on a hiatus, I have to make sure to close the game after I have stopped a villager from moving out so I havent lost my villagers!
Ill probably start playing only 15mins to an hour everyday after I finishing getting all my badges (im very close).
HOWEVER .... I dont think Ill ever stop playing acnl completely because I love my town and my villagers. I mostly like seeing my town when it rains and visiting dream addresses. During the summer, I like taking a stroll around my town at night and seeing fireflies around the lake because its so beautiful. My fav holidays are harvest festival and christmas, so its really enjoyable to play on those days! I also really like it when it snows: yay snowflakes! The music is pretty and snow people is fun!
I probably wont buy another animal crossing game unless the game play has changed a lottt! Acnl is my first and only animal crossing game so far ^^
I stopped playing for a while after I achieved my dream town for my first game. I felt like I was just playing to keep villagers from leaving. I also got really busy with work so I couldn't play anymore. But now I've started a new town and I occasionally visit my old town through the dream suite (forgot where I left my game and honestly too scared to start it up again and everything is fu*ked up). I'm gonna take my time with this one and try out a new town theme. Maybe finally put in some work to other characters other than my mayor.
