so i just spent the better portion of 30 minutes searching for my last two mushrooms. and i mean, i searched everywhere; every darn tree stump that i had, whether i knew i had checked it once already, was checked at least two more times. i eventually gave up and went to gather the fossils instead (my shovel had broken, so i couldn't dig them up when i first discovered the star patterns) - only to discover i had 6 stars on my island. 2 of them were rare mushrooms.

needless to say, i'm a little ticked at myself because i wasted so much time looking for something that was technically right under my nose the entire time.

am i the only one who was unaware of this? most likely.

Haha, yeah, I only knew about them because I saw someone mention it in the forums! I never really dig up my fossils anymore because I don't need them. Now I have a reason to do that again I guess lol.

Also they literally kinda look like fossils? When I first dug it up I thought it was more prehistoric poo

Don't worry! I completely forgot about this until I found one. It took me longer than I care to admit to realize that they are supposed to be truffles and that is why they are underground.

i literally thought the same thing - it looked like some dino doo-doo. 😂

i at least feel a lot better knowing that some players even with that knowledge forgot about it. i should have been counting the 'fossil' icons i was seeing as i was passing them, but i honestly didn't know what to expect 😅

I FOund two side by side after looking everwhere. I had to check each area and behind stuff. You never know what nintendo will do next.

i was looking everywhere for the two mushrooms i was missing, exactly like that; i checked even behind the trees because i was convinced that they would all be visible. luckily my two rare mushrooms were also side by side, so that made it pretty easy to get them off my checklist for today's to-do.

now that i've found them, it definitely makes sense, especially with what meggie pointed out for the type of mushroom they are. truffle's naturally grow underground.

They were the same in NL, buried.

Though all the mushrooms looked much better in NL too, and I miss the famous mushrooms.

I mean, for a split second, I thought I dug up some assessed coprolite, so don't blame you for thinking it's a fossil haha.

I still dig up and assess my daily 4 fossils, but I think I'll have to stop them from spawning and bury them in a specific spot for now. Don't want to prevent the rare mushrooms from spawning in the usual places that the fossils do.

This doesn't bother me at all! I still dig up fossils even after finishing my museum collection. I want the extra Bells.

I was barely paying attention the first day of november so didnt even notice what i dug up wasnt a fossil. later when i found out only 5 mushrooms spawn per day i checked my inventory to be sure I had gotten them all and was surprised to find a rare one.

I had no idea! I don't need fossils anymore so I don't bother digging them up. Thank god I read this thread or I would have been in the same boat as you lol

They look like fossils to you? Well l always saw them as poop in the ground from a villager.

they look like fossils in my exp, but will always spawn around trees. though, you can also bury four fossils behind a cliff and not have to worry about them anymore (I use them as my bell income since I don't play consistently enough for turnips, and I no longer have NS online)

okay, so to clarify: when i said fossil i meant the star on the ground before you dig it up was the same as the fossil 😅 however, it does look like some fossilized dung in my opinion a bit, but truffles kind of do.

also, i don't mind digging up my fossils, even though my fossil section in my museum is completed. i'm planning on using some of them as decorations outside my museum anyways, so i have to dig them up and assess them still if i don't want to trade or buy them from other players. that's why i was so confused when i counted the 6 stars instead of 4 normal stars c':

I mean the dig spot star is for anything buried

fossils, rare shroom, pitfalls, gyroids (whenever those return), misc crap...

so I get what you were saying, but the op was highly misleading and very wrong in that regard

Haha! I didn't actually know there were rare mushrooms until I dug one up while gathering my daily fossils! I was pretty shocked, to tell you the truth!
