"Rare" fish and insects...

So the last few days, I've been hunting down the final few fish and insects I've been missing for the summer months of July and August and I recently got them all, and oooooh my lord why are some things seemingly so rare?! I know there are threads on this already, but I just wanna point out it takes AGES to get some things sometimes, I don't know if it is because it is actually rare to find or if I'm just super unlucky...

But, that's not really the thing. I don't mind doing it, I know it'll eventually appear. What bothers me is the fact once you spend ALL that time looking for these little buggers (no pun intended), they just pop up EVERYWHERE!

Seriously. I spend a WEEK looking for a giraffe stag. Randomly found it while looking for a villager I might want to invite to my island on a mystery tour. I've since saw AT LEAST ten in the past two days.

Describes my entire bug and fish search to complete the blasted critterpedia.
I haven't done a lot of bug and fish searching in awhile because I took some time to focus on getting my island to 5 stars.
Now that I have accomplished that, I think I'm going to start fishing and catching bugs regularly again.

It seems like spawn rates for this game are pretty bad. I’ve stopped trying to hunt for them and just let them appear on their own. I’ve been lucky so far and today my first cicada shell finally appeared. Now, I’m only missing the walking stick.

If it helps, I've seen walking sticks mostly on palm trees.

Haven't seen a walking stick yet or a walker cicada. Walking bugs just don't appear on my island I guess

I found my first walking stick during the bug off. Nate also had his eyes on it. I almost made that bear into a rug that day. About 10 minutes later I found a second one and gave it to him.

Cicada shells are uncommon but I haven't had nearly the same amount of issue with them as others have.

I totally get your giraffe stag problem. I finally got one yesterday though! Today it's the golden stag I need to get, then I'll be done with this month's leaving bugs!

Also the migratory locust has been evading me like crazy? I think I saw one, but I didn't get a chance to react. I was just calmly walking by when it decided to yeet itself into the river- and I had been searching for one for like an hour up to then.'

EDIT: Literally 10 minutes later and I got that golden stag.

yesterday I did the mystery island bug farm, took 2.5 hours for a golden stag to appear.
