Random thoughts thread. (New Horizons)

It seems like it's one of those devices to get people into cooperative play. (I'm not a coop player.)
Figures. Nintendo should take into consideration that not everyone is a coop planner (I personally only play with others to buy/get items or adopt villagers), or even have NSO.

I'm just now realizing that Tulin, the newly added villager from the 3.0 update is a Male Jock Villager! My whole life I thought he was a girl!

So, K'appn took me to a Summer island earlier, even though I have only had my current island since January 15th and do not time travel O_O

For those of you who are not familiar, K'appn should only
take you to an off-season island if you
have experienced it on your actual island.

I did some fishing and caught a pond smelt, so the creatures were still in Winter mode, but the island itself was in Summer mode, alright.

After almost 1 month of playing with the 3.0.0 update, I need to get my thoughts out.

What I'm about to say is controversial, but please let me know. I feel like the Hotel was so barebones. Like, all you do is just design for tourists and villagers, and then that's it. No new items are being added to the catalog after you are basically done getting the Nintendo systems. I played Happy Home Paradise back in 2021, so I expected a bit more. After 3 weeks, I grew bored of the Hotel and never used it again

As for new features, I am glad that bulk crafting was added; it makes it easier to use materials from storage rather than carrying them around in your pockets. That was a much-needed change. I also like Resetti, how he can clear up your island for you, and it saves a lot of time when flattening your island, especially now that we can store trees, flowers, and bushes. Thank goodness I was able to make hybrids so easily with this change.

Other than that, there are still some things in this update that haven't improved. The villagers are still talking the same way, and I didn't see any new dialogue or features with them. The DIYs are still repetitive, and there is no way to bulk buy items. Seriously, it's 2026, and we have a Mailbox that can hold 300 letters, and you mean to tell me that we can still only order 5 items at a time? Come on, Nintendo, and not to mention, there is STILL no feature to expand our home size in our homes. Like, come on, we can do this with the Hotel, why not with our own homes? It just feels like such a missed opportunity.

Overall, the 3.0.0 update was okay. The Hotel was cool for a while, but it got stale and repetitive as the weeks went by. The addition of bulk crafting was a much-needed change, and with Resetti making it easier to clear up your island, it was a great change for changing this up on the island. Other than that, it was just okay, but it could've been better. I will give it a 7/10

Alright I got my villager line up for my Switch 2 island, Cozy Cove, all lined up.
I unintendedly went for villagers who had brown, orange, and white in their colors. After the first 5 villagers having shades of brown, I just continued with that theme. I also purposely went for villagers who aren't very popular. I'm going to start moving them in via Amiibo once I reach 3 stars, starting with the villager whose personality I don't currently have on my island at the time. My island does not have a theme, but the villagers certainly do lol

With that being said, here's the line up

I'm going to have two Lazy villagers, they are Bones the dog, and Papi the horse. Their color schemes match each other so that is kind of cute. I'll likely make them neighbors as well.

I'm going to have two Normal villagers, they are Sylvana the squirrel and Melba the koala. I've always wanted to have Sylvana on an island but never found the right island for her and I think Melba is just too adorable.

For Cranky, I'm going to have Grizzly the bear. For this personality, I was looking for either a bear or alligator. Del looked a bit too mechanically shiny for me so I chose who I personally think is one of the cutest bears (alongside Curt)

For Big sister, I chose Pashmina the goat. I asked myself when I was looking at the Big sister villagers, "who would I go to for advice if one of these villagers was my big sister?" Pashmina stuck out the most for me.

For Jock, I chose Sly the alligator. No other reason except I think he's adorable.

For Peppy, I going to have Bangle the tiger. Again, no real reason for picking her, except her color matches. I would have picked Rosie, but purple cat Rosie would have stood out like a sore thumb in this brown/white/orange villager line up. Bangle's cute I have no problem with her.

For Smug I picked O'Hare the rabbit because besides Tutu, O'Hare is one of my Dreamies. And his color matches the villager theme so that's a bonus.

Lastly for Snooty, I'm going to have Purrl the cat. She's a cute cat villager and I realized that her color theme matches Papi and Bones. Funny how that worked out.

So yeah, there's my line up. I'm not going to make them permanent, after I get their photo, they are free to move. Also my island isn't going to be brown forest themed. My island stays themeless. I don't like doing themed islands but I don't mind having themed villagers. XD

I have sort of the same feelings about the 3.0 update, like the hotel is just not all that interesting of a feature but I am enjoying the visiting villagers roaming around. I'm getting ready to do the third room as to my mind it makes more sense to pace myself on it seeing as how my town is still fairly new.

HappyTails, those are some great villagers. I've had most of them in at least one other game, sometimes more. I'm also not big on keeping most of my villagers long term--I like collecting the photos then sending most of them on their way.

I think that happens when he takes you to the vines and moss island, and also the shooting star island. Those islands can only be summer islands, but they lock to your current season and time of day with regards to the fish and bugs that spawn there. It’s basically like your current season but with a summer filter over the top 😅

I learned this the hard way when I spent a while trying to catch some palm tree bugs on the vine island before realising that there were damsel flies everywhere!

The DIYs are still repetitive
This leads me to something I wish was improved upon at one point.

It's been almost six years. And I still cannot, to this very day, understand why villagers force you to accept a DUPLICATE DIY recipe. People use the excuse that it encourages us to trade them to other players, but this is still a weak argument. Not every wants to constantly get rid of duplicate DIY this way. I just have to keep selling them because I cannot escape the mess.

It's backwards. It would be understandable for them to force the new ones on us, because at that point, we could learn it and get it added to our DIY library, eventually getting Nook Miles for having certain numbers of DIY recipes learned.

We should either have the option to decline either way, or we should be able to decline the duplicates and have the new ones just given to us.

Ah, I see. Thank you for the explanation. ^^

Luckily, it was day time and I caught a pond smelt shortly after arriving, so I didn't spend that much time wondering if I could catch palm beetles. 😅

The guest villagers don't participate sadly. They just walk around as usual. Just glorify props at this point.
I did change the outfits at the hotel so they could match the others, at least you can do that.

Edit: Then again, it does look like they are participating now.

Axel the elephant is a visitor.

Wow. That Axel gets around--he's been in my town twice in the last week. :ROFLMAO:

I'd much rather quit getting duplicates but I've been sticking them into storage because who knows, later on I might want to create another character. I may not either, might just end up pulling them out and putting them in the drop box at the store. I usually do that with the more annoying to sell things like excess flowers, etc.

I just made my signature with all my island info on it. That was fun. XD

Also, Cranston, my arch enemy from New Leaf is on my island. I buried the hatchet with him. Letting bygones be bygones.

I might do something similar ^_^
(though I probably will just list my dreamies instead of my current residents, otherwise I’ll have to just keep updating it which can get tedious.)

. . .

Festivalé has been fun ^_^

My pockets are full of junk, but due to being at the one month mark, my nook store is currently under construction, so I don’t even have the dropbox 😭😭😭

I've never gotten any of the golden tools in New Horizons, but I can imagine it feels unrewarding and underwhelming compared to previous games. You don't even get the tool. You just get the DIY for it. And gold nuggets are not easy to come across (though I did get one recently). The kicker to all of this is that, even after all the effort that goes into obtaining the DIY recipes and materials, is that they STILL eventually break. It honestly makes me wonder if I should even bother with gold tools even if I do eventually unlock the DIY recipes for them. And from what I understand, you just

I can imagine it is at least rewarding to look back at your DIY recipes and be reminded of the work that went into obtaining all of the golden tool recipes. That is a feeling I do want to experience one of these days. But even then, I will probably just stick with the regular tools. It's just not worth the hassle to hoard all of those gold nuggets, in my opinion. I will probably just put them to use by making gold-themed furniture on days Nook's Cranny has one for a hot item.

In the last few days, I have actually gotten towns set up for me in the other four mainline games. Thanks to the 3.0 Update for New Horizons, my Animal Crossing hyper-fixation is currently enabled.

I even have some mods installed for NH's predecessors (Don't worry, they are NOT for cheating for the gold tools; they are just to enhance gameplay).
- This morning, I finally managed to successfully install the Deluxe mod for the original Animal Crossing. Something I tried to do last year, but struggled too. It's basically E+, but in English. ^_^
- I am not sure if this one is successful or not yet, but I also installed (or attempted to) a Wild World mod this morning. I mostly got it to remove the ******* Nookington's Requirement--that I can no longer fulfill anyway. It also adjusts some other things. Monkeys can apparently move to your town automatically now. Also something I learned today: Lily and Ribbot's catchphrases were apparently swapped in this game by Nintendo (likely an oversight), so they are swapped back so they can match their catchphrases in the other games.
- I installed City Folk deluxe this past Summer. I did dip into it, even got Valise as a starting villager, but I ghosted shortly after, since I just wasn't in the Animal Crossing mojo. The most notable things about this mod is that you can choose your skin tone (and I believe tanning is disabled), and that there are villagers that were not in the original (like Valise). You can also get villagers as starters you weren't able to in the vanilla game. I restarted until I got Apollo, but I also ended up getting Ankha as a starter The latter is not available as a starter in the vanilla game.
- This is mainly just a texture pack-like mod, but it goes so well with my aesthetic. It's a Valentine's Day texture mod. I also used the RAM editor to give myself Apollo, a wet suit, and some tools (just the regular ones). I probably will continue to use the RAM editor for furniture and different fruits, since it is tedious (if not impossible) without the Fi-Wi. >_<

It will be just like the 2024 days, but even better. :,)

But back to the golden tools discussion...

I don't know if I will be following through with this challenge, but I would love to challenge myself and see if I can get all of the golden tools across GC, WW, CF, and NL - and - the DIYs for them in NH. It's an ambitious goal, and it would allow me to see how the fulfilling it feels in each game, for each tool.

I am a bit iffy about the golden fishing rods (due to impact lag) and golden nets (due to bees being difficult to catch prior to NL), but I can still damn well try. I could get the silver versions (in CF and NL) first if it helps. ^_^

It's actually even worst. You can't customize the gold tool with the customization kits like the regular tools. So you can't reset the durability which makes regular tools better in all ways. And the gold tools in the older games actually had cool features since none of the regular tools broke besides the ax. The golden ax specialty was it wouldn't break.
