Raffalsia: WHY?!

So I restarted my town several days ago and to start off with a clean slate, I got someone to help me chop down all my trees. I planted maybe 10 trees total and some 30 hybrids I had transferred, and as soon as I could I got Isabelle to enact the beautiful town ordinance. The next day, I wake up and I see THIS:

Ok it's kinda cool, I've never seen a raffalsia before in my game.

But is this normal? Plus, even with the beautiful town ordinance, I woke up to several hybrids dried out and I needed to water them. Is it because my town is too barren at the moment? (i also have several items on the floor of my trainstation after a trade earlier). But even in my other town when I hold large amount of items at the station or plaza, I never get raffalsia growing. I'm trying to carefully monitor my tree count this time to get a perfect town, this is not exactly encouraging haha

I'm just gonna assume it's because in have little trees and lots of crap on the floor but I'm still a little confused why my beautiful town ordinance is not working.

If I'm not mistaken, they appear in towns with less than 2 pwps. Try building a few things and it should go away.

I once reset and restarted an old copy of New Leaf.
Basically I needed as much room as possible for items to hold for someone.

Day one - I cut down all the trees and planted the fruit from the trees I cut down. I didn't count but I think it was 9 - 27 trees total - spaced all in the back row.

Next day - Raffalsia! I was surprised - not expecting that!

Finished my development permit - built my second bridge - evil smelly flower had died; turned black. Disappeared a few days later.

So I'm guessing in your situation it is also too few trees and PWPs.

I had it one other time in a cycling town - a town set with the Beautiful Ordinance yet I still had the flower appear.
Someone here - don't remember who - refused to adopt a Tier One villager because I had the flower. Lol!

Obviously it's gonna take a while to get rid of the Rafflesia, but I think sometimes the ordinance just really needs a few days to get going. I remember when I first enacted the Beautiful Town ordinance and I still got the normal daily amount of weeds for up to a few days afterwards.

Oh okay, so it's not a weird glitch! That's hilarious that the person didn't want to adopt the villager because of the flower haha! I guess I'll just wait it out.

@Totakek: ok good to know! I was wondering why my flowers were still dying and I thought the raffalsia had something to do with it :<

The Animal Crossing Wiki says Rafflesia can appear when your town is at the worst rating. This could be because:

You have too few trees

You have too few flowers

You have too many dropped items on the ground (Some items don't count such as Bells and Fruit)

You have less than 3 PWPS

You have too many weeds.

I agree, they do look nice in my opinion. I wish they were bigger too because raffalsia can get HUGE

I only got one when my town got too many weeds, I never got one when I didn't have enough flowers,Trees or PWPs. But that's just me

I have a cactus on my window sill whose flowers produce a similar rotting smell that attracts flies. I had a pitcher plant next to it that ate the flies

That idea sounds pretty cool though and would make a great horror / story town! I wonder if you can have more than one raffalsia in town naturally without the use of hacking.

It's normal. It only happens when you have no trees in town haha. I've done it before with my brother, to get rid of my native fruit and I woke up to the same thing. As well as him.

Well, I guess you're at the worst town rating right now. Since you enacted the beautiful ordinance, I don't think you got the rafflesia because of having too many weeds. I think you should plant a bit more flowers. I think the trees are a big problem too. If I were you, you should try putting nice PWP's in your town like the Flower Clock, because that actually boosts up your town rating. Talk to Isabelle at the town hall and ask her about Citizen Satisfaction. She will tell you what's wrong from there.
