i do not think so.. i tried once but got super impatient... but it works on the beach in your town so thats how i do it

Can you even have a watering can on the island without hacking?
If you want to decorate your island with hybrids, you can bring them over by wearing them, but you can only bring one at a time this way.

The beach is honestly the best way to breed because no unwanted or wanted villagers can plot down on your breeding patches. I got plenty of blue roses this way c:
