Questions on obtaining villager photos

Hello, here’s my first question. So for example you are at level 5-6 friendship with a villager. You give them a 2500+ selling value gift. Then they give you an item, right? So can you repeatedly exit the game if they don’t give you their photo, then do it all over again?

I’ve been doing this today with Apple. I immediately press the Home button as soon as I see what she’s about to give me. So far, she gave me clothes and furniture. I’m just not sure if you can get a villager photo this way. I also read somewhere that it’s a 10% chance for villagers you have max friendships with. Or is the villager photo gift somehow set on a particular day?

I also noticed that on my island, cranky and lazy villagers are the fastest to give away their photos. Octavian, Lucky, Spike, and Boomer consecutively gave me their photos. A week later, the jocks, smugs and normals followed. Quillson and Megan even gave me theirs on the same day. I’m having a hard time with peppy and big sisters. Unfortunately, I don’t have a snooty villager. So does villager personality influence your chances as well?

Hey there! Once you are at a high friendship level you can absolutely hard reset with giving gift wrapped 2500+ selling items. The way you are doing it should definitely work eventually. I generally just keep giving them gift wrapped iron wall lamps while farming Redd or something else. You can also do the stacked fruit method with a full inventory where villagers will mail you their photo after.

After getting over 70+ photos from villagers I don't think personality actually has an influence on determining the difficulty of receiving a photo. At one point, months ago, I kind of thought it did, but after a LOT more attempts at gathering photos from many different personality villager, it just seems like pure RNG. Sometimes you get lucky and will get their photo very soon after reaching max friendship. Other times it can take 20 more gifts even.

5 of my villagers I've had since April. They've all taught me their 'high friendship' reactions. Not one has given me their photo lol

It seems like it is probably random. Bangle took forever to give me her photo, but Dotty gave me her photo after about 3 weeks, before I’d ever even had a ‘change the catchphrase’ conversation. Obviously we were at that level and farther, it just hadn’t triggered yet. They are both peppies...so yeah, I think it is random. Dotty truly shocked me though!

Ahahaha, I picked up this tip from a Youtube video recently! I haven't gotten any pictures yet but my villagers all had very good reactions to the lamp, so I'm hopeful.

Before, I would just randomly gift them clothing I thought they'd look cute in, which I think is still a pretty good strategy. I did manage to give a few of my villagers the WRONG clothing though, and that weird clothes I gave them on accident are the ones they seem to love the most! LOL

I've been wrapping up 3 non-native fruit and I've managed to get photos relatively quickly that way. Out of my current 10 villagers I've got one left but that one is my most recent one. I didn't even have to get to the 'highest' level where they ask to change the greeting either.

Someone mentioned the gift value matteringin passing above, but it is worth repeating that you can only get a photo from a gift that sells for 750+ (the price if you sell the item at nooks, not how much you pay for it)
Also, while gifting wall lamps will work it will eventually cause the villager’s furniture to disappear, because even though they don’t display them, it fills up their furniture inventory.

the fruit hats you craft yourself - Apple, orange, pear, peach, and cherry all sell for 1000 bells, so you will be able to get photos this way.

The ones you buy in able’s - kiwi hart, pineapple, watermelon, etc, do not sell for enough and will not get you gifted a photo -though if you don’t care about that it is of course a perfectly fine gift.

Good luck on getting your villager photos! Resetting should definitely work eventually. Slow but it will pay off.

I have 3 villager photos and I'm working on obtaining the rest. Been switching back and forth between wrapped fruit and iron wall lamps,nothing so far, though the friendship levels have definitely been increasing because I'm getting a lot of more interesting dialog

I always thought it was random cause I started trying to get Rosie and Ketchup's photos around the same time, and it only took a week of giving Ketchup, fossils before she gave me it, while Rosie seemed to take forever, took a week and a half after Ketchup when she finally gave me her's and they're both preppies (do fossils work good for gaining friendship? I that's an example I saw on a YouTube video and its worked so far but is there a faster method?)

I've had my current island and villagers for 2 months and only got my first photos today--3 of them. The iron wall lamps are working but, based on the advice in this thread, I think I'll switch to non-native wrapped fruit stacks.
