This is a question for the people who post up villagers for sale in the new neighbors forum. When I see posts like "[villager name] quick sale, voiding soon!" and there is a price listed in your thread, does that indicate that you are going to void that villager if you don't get the price listed, or would you usually be willing to let them go for a cheaper price, or even for free if someone doesn't come forward with your listed price?

When I see things worded like that, it just gives me the impression that if you don't get the amount that you want for that villager, you'd rather void them than give them to someone who might actually really like to acquire them, but might not be able to afford them at your listed price. Or do you simply put "voiding soon" up as a rush sales tactic to get people's attention?

This isn't meant to be accusatory or anything, I was simply genuinely curious to get some insight from the sellers regarding threads like that.

From my experience, most people who say they're voiding a villager soon it's because they have secured a trade and have to make room for another villager, and don't want to keep the other trader waiting. I myself bought Beau the other day for 5 NMT because the person had to void him soon to make space for Chrissy and I assume they would rather let me have him cheap than have to void him.

If I had to void a villager quickly though, I would always rather give a villager for free to someone that really wants them instead of putting a price tag when I know for a fact I don't have enough time to auction them off or wait for offers.

Normally, in my case, id set a price but if i needed to get rid of them soon it wouldnt be super set. If no one accepts, then id end up just advertising for free if i get that desperate. If no one wants them then ill just void them

It varies from person to person really.

Sometimes you are quick cycling or don't have very much time... so sometimes it just is not worth the time or effort to meet with someone for a free give or lesser offer.

It usually doesnt hurt to post in the thread saying, "hey, I know you are looking for ______, but would you be willing to do _____ instead?" Sure, it isn't want they want, but they may accept the offer. They may decline the offer. You don't know unless you ask.

Though, I think it is rude to ask for a villager for free or completely lowball an offer. Even if they state they will be just void the villager anyways. Their time is worth SOMETHING so asking for free is just rude. (I probably wouldnt even respond to them tbh...)

I say all this as someone who had a cycle town and worked mostly with trying to help people get their lower tier, often insta-voided dreamies, usually for free. And have done higher tier villagers giveaways, both on and off site.

Thank you all for the input so far! It's already helped given me some insight into those types of threads.

I always settle, especially for players who don't TT because I know how hard it can be to organically move out villagers, and I'm sure once they eventually do, it can be demotivating seeing the 300NMT requirement for their dreamies...

But at the end of the day, most players don't feel comfortable taking something for nothing, so even if I offer a villager for free, I've always been offered something in return, which I tell them isn't necessary but is appreciated :)

Exactly what I do,, I usually set a price, and then go lower and lower until I just make them free lol.

Whenever I sell villagers I might void, I always am willing to consider other offers! I hate voiding villagers and would rather work with people if they want the villager and can't afford the price. It's all about making people happy for me and so that my villagers go to good homes

I honestly feel intimidated by the whole glitch situation to even try to trade for a villager. Mind you, the villager I want the most isn't even popular (Bill), and I would totally buy his card if it wasn't for the way things are priced where I live, but I've been feeling discouraged to get him because, with the current situation, I could end up with a bigger problem (as I have not a single amiibo, and I wouldn't be able to fix the issue if it happened to me).

I believe most people would eventually settle for a lease price or even give the villager for free if they're in a rush to open a plot for a villager they've traded for.
