Hello, so I?d like to get Marshal back who moved out some time ago but I have to cycle through 16 villagers.
I?m hesitant to start because I?ve already landscaped a fair bit in my main town and like most of my villagers. So I don?t want any random move ins to mess up my layout, or accidentally lose a good villager.

I already read through guides about moving out villagers and plot resetting, but do you guys have any advice about doing them simultaneously?

Alternatively, how safe is the ?villagers wont move onto paths? update? Most of my town is pretty compact with paths and pwps side by side that I don?t think a villager could move in there even they wanted to. If I left a whole chunk in the upper half without any paths, is it safe to assume they?d move there instead?

I?m considering doing that instead of plot resetting and just hoping they?ll move in the huge vacant area. Also because plot resetting is a huge pain when I don?t know when exactly to expect a villager is moving in through the random 16 cycle.

Any tips/insight/experiences you may have is appreciated!!

If you want to cycle through, then my advice is to have one spot/section for the villagers to move into, unfortunately, you?ll probably need two open slots in your town to cycle, because the newest villager to move in can?t move out. For the path update, yes, it really works, I have been able to plot reset all my villagers to move where I want them to. You have to place a path in any 3x3 area so the villager can?t move there, and they can move on flowers and/or trees, so you have to plot reset in any gardens or those areas. But if you don?t want to plot reset, there is another way of getting villagers to move where you want them to, slightly, the day a plot is supposed to appear, don?t start as you?re mayor/other villagers, make a new villager, and wonder around town to see where the plot isn?t when you can, if the plot is in a bad spot, just build your house then demolish it, then make another new character, if the plot is in a good spot then make a house, demolish it, then go as your mayor, and the plot should be locked.

Villager cycling however, is pretty complicated, it requires a lot of time traveling and wondering around villagers for potential pings.

If you get a random move in, even if you time travel, I believe the plot would show up any time you start the game, but if you have 9 villagers, once the 9th moved out, the plot would show up two days after the day they are in boxes.

Hi there,
To do cycling out and plotting at once isn't too hard,
I'll give you everything I know on everything so hopefully you can glean something to help you.

Placing tiles
To prevent a villager from plotting where you don't want, you don't need to cover every square inch in tiles, you just need to put down enough so that there's no 3x3 spaces available for plotting, like put down a tile every two spaces or whatever works for you. move special flowers down to your beach if your concerned so they don't get squished and it will leave you more room to place tiles.
Placing tiles is tedious but it's really worth it when you do a lot of cycling.
I would do the areas where you definitely don't want someone to be and cover those first, (i.e infront of bridges, beach ramps, gardens, etc) then really decide where you want them to be and leave a few 3x3 areas open in your chosen spots.
Or leave a large section, like you have, open and tile everything else.
It's also helpful to invite people over or have them look through your DA ( I prefer the Da) to double check tile placement, fresh eyes can spot trouble that we don't see.
Plot resetting isn't to difficult as long as you narrow down where they're allowed to plot, say have 12 preferred spots, including villagers you already like the placement of, so there's 3 open spots for them to choose from.

CYCLING

Some info:
Villagers will only move out once there's at least 8 villagers. (you will get a game generated move in when this happens)
A villager starts the moving process every 5 days.
From start to finish, the moving process takes 10 days.
They can ping you at any point during the 10 days, so it maybe less notice for you.
You can use the same plots, you don't have to move everyone out. Pick one or two villagers you're not too attached to and use their plots.
To get new villagers moved in, you can use villager cyclers here, or your campground.

You will have to tt, but don't worry, you won't end years in the future because you can stay within the same week!
Talk to everyone, the megaphone is a great tool during this, makes it easier to find them.
For those you can't find, either walking around or in houses, that means they're somewhere in mainstreet, walking around, in the stores or the museum.
Once you've spoken to everyone, or as many as you can find, and nobody has said anything about moving, save and tt 3 days ahead. (Some do 5 days, I do 3, because if gives me a little more time to catch someone I don't want moving and stop them plus villagers consider themselves shunned if you don't speak to them within a few days and might not tell you if they're moving.)
Repeat what you did before and walk and talk to as many as you can find, If no one says anything about anyone moving, save and tt 3 days again.
Repeat the walk around.
If someone tells you that they're moving or someone else is thinking about it, decide whether you want to cycle that villager out or you're keeping them, if you're okay with them leaving, ignore them until they're gone, (10 days at the max, depending how long they were thinking about moving before they told you; you can tt if you want ) if not, tell the not to leave or (in the case of being told that someone else is leaving) find them and tell them to stay.
TT backwards a week, and repeat until you've had 16 villagers move out.
As long as you have at least 8 villagers in town, you shouldn't get a game generated move in, but you could possibly get a moved out villager from someone else's town, so I'd avoid any hosting or visiting during this. the exception being that you're going to pick up a boxed villager, in which case, they usually plot the next day.

Plot resetting
Now where things get tricky, load your mayor BUT mess with time before you start so that it's the next day (ie 16th to the 17th) but not after 6 AM, (in animal crossing, a new day doesn't start until 6 in the morning, even if the DATE is a new day), set the time to say 5:58 am, and save as soon as you're outside your house.
Now just wait for a few minutes (however long it is until it's after 6am). Some people exit completely out of the game to the home screen, but I like watching the camera pan around my town, once I see villagers walking around, I know it's after 6.
Make a new character, run around town and look for a plot, be very thorough, check everywhere. (new plots are sneaky)
If you find the plot in an area you don't like, just quit by exiting the game, no need to do anything else.
If you like the spot, complete the new character process until the game saves after you get your town pass card, save, quit and start as your mayor, save again then go delete the new character and fill in the space where the tent was with tiles.

If I wasn't clear on something (which with me, is almost certain) please let me know, I would like to help you you out.
good luck!

Thanks so much for your advice! I tested it a bit on my second town and just get a little confused when to expect a villager move in since it’s random. I messed up a bit when plot resetting bc I made a new character to look for plots but I just checked the town map instead of looking for the actual physical plot lol so I will try again and test it a bit more. :)

Also good idea with the dream address thing! I’ll triple check and plot-proof my main town again and post my DA here if someone would kindly check it out for me!

Ably, I did see that you offered something called private cycling in your villager thread. What does that mean exactly, just getting villagers from you instead of the game so it’s not random? o:

Yes, plots don't show up on the map, it would be so much easier if they did!
Not necessarily getting villagers from me (I'm happy to help though) but you can go ask villagers in boxes to move into your town. You have to have room for them though, less than 10, and you can only ask one a day.
