I just picked up a villager from wifi, how many days does it take for them to move in because I want to reset and put their house in a good place if they put it in a bad place.

Also, I'm not too sure about how that all works please can someone tell me in a simplified way?
Thanks so much!

So, once you pick up a villager from someone, the next day their house plot will be there. You need to plot reset this day. DO NOT log in as your mayor/secondary/third character otherwise their house is locked in. After you plot reset and find a good spot for them and save, the next day they will move in.

If you picked them up today, they'll place their plot tomorrow, yes. That's when you want to make a new character.

I've linked this video before, because it explains everything quite well.

To plot reset:

1. Set the time to just before 6 AM on the next day. Example, if it's Sept 24th at 3 PM, set your clock to Sept 25 at 5:57 AM. Don't forget that part. It's messed up a few plot resets for me...

2. Immediately save and quit once you set the clock to 5:57. DON'T let the clock roll over to 6:00

3. After about 3 minutes make a NEW save file. Go through the new character making phase on the train, and then once you enter the town, start looking for the new villager plot. If it's somewhere terrible, just hit the Home key and close AC. Then start over. Just make sure you keep making new characters

4. When the villager is in a good place for you, go to Isabelle and complete the new resident phase, including going to nook and plotting your own house. Head back to Isabelle one last time to complete it, and save. Then just save and quit

Then you can delete that save file if you so desire. Otherwise, you're safe to load up your mayor.

The time change is irrelevant, you only need to change the date. Starting a new character at 6:01am on September 25th is the same as starting a new character at 3:00pm on September 25th (as long as you haven't loaded an already saved character beforehand). It's one less half-step to worry about and potentially mess up.

It also seems like people have less issues by changing the system's time directly instead of the game's time. I can't say for sure, I only change the system settings.

^You can't change the date with a new character, so you do need to set the time before 6 with another character if you want to start plot resetting right away.

Just a heads up, I got a villager from someone yesterday and it took three-four days for him to put his plot down for some reason or another. So don't get too freaked out if they don't put their house down ASAP. (I'm not sure why this happened, as every single other villager I've gotten has put down a plot the day after I talked to them) The time of day doesn't matter as long as you aren't playing the game at 6 A.M. I plot reset at any time of day other than that.

if you start up a new character and you find no plot, still save. you may load up your mayor and find a plot on accident.
