Question about villager glitch

Is it safe to visit islands or have people over mine with a villager in boxes? I have 10 villagers atm, but one leaving tomorrow.

You only have to worry if you have an empty plot.

No, it isn't safe if the visitors have a glitched void.

the glitch only occurs when inviting villagers to move in, not from a void.

No, it can definitely happen from a voided villager. It just doesn't seem to be as common.
