Question about villager birthdays

Ok yea so I'm a newb but one of my villagers is having a birthday this week. How do I get them a present? Do I mail them one ? Can I show up with one and throw it one the floor? PLease explain cause I dont know. Thanks in advance.

Buy them a gift and on the day of their birthday they'll be in their house. Talk to them and they'll ask if you got them a gift say yes and you'll be able to hand it over. I suggest wrapping it

You just show up at their house on the day of their birthday. Another villager will usually already be there. Just have the present in your pocket and talk to the villager and it'll let you choose the present out of your pocket to give it to them. it doesn't have to be wrapped but you can.
