Do catches count toward medals if you release the bug or fish right after catching it? Like, if you have a full inventory and say "release" instead of "swap" or something?
I doubt there's a way to say for certain unless you carried out a test.
But im sure they should count towards medals.
I would just swap out the fish for an item you can drop, then go sell the fish just incase im wrong.
