Question about PWP placement

If I want to put a bench directly north of a fire pit, will it work if there is one tile of space between the two projects, or would it have to be 2 tiles of space? :s i.e., what I want to do: (x=unoccupied tile, B=tile occupied by bench, F=tile occupied by fire pit, S=tile occupied by a stump)
