Question about pathing

So, I finally unlocked terraforming (yay!) and I'm working on the pathing. I wanted to know if there is any difference between the built in paths and the downloaded paths?

Also, I've seen people posting about a single transparent pixel? What does that do?

You can have flowers breed and trees grow on the dirt paths as opposed to QR/custom paths, which I believe cannot have flowers and trees grown on them. Villagers will also follow along on the default paths you buy with nook miles, but since I haven't experimented with custom paths, I can't comment on whether or not they'll follow custom paths as well.

On the transparent pixel thing: you know how for default paths they have a border where the grass covers it slightly? If you put a custom pattern with at least one transparent pixel on top of a default path on the edge, the pattern will conform to the shape of the default path and will also have the grassy edge and such! I hope I explained it well ^^; I'd grab example pictures if I could find any/wasnt so tired to grab it myself
