Question about moving an existing character to another town?

Okay, I just got a second copy today and I want to move my existing character to my new town. I get the basic idea, but I'm also planning on resetting for a good map. If I do reset, will I have to do the whole move in process with my first copy again or will they already be on the train when I reset? Or will they even exist at all anymore? I just don't want to restart and find out that my character ended up in some sort of nonexistent limbo where they're not in either game anymore.

I think you have to complete their move? Ie, invite them into your new town at least, right? I'd probably tt them into actually being moved in to be safe. but I don't know for sure.

Nope, I created a different character to check. Once you select move in, that villager will move into the new town. If you reset, the next time you start up the game it'll say that someone's already trying to move in and it'll put you on the train with that character again, so you can still reset for maps even if you're moving a character in from a different town.
