Question about moved villager

Hi!
So, so far none of my villagers have moved. But I wanted to know what happens if they do. Will the plot stay at the space where their house used to be or do you have to buy a new villager plot & place it?

I guess there’s no way to pick up the plot? And the next day a random villager will move in?
