Question about Lemons

Ok this is probably going to sound silly, but I really can't fathom why the game consideres them an exotic fruit.
I mean.... what's the reason? I get why mangoes, durians, coconuts, bananas and even persimmons are perceived as foreign and exotic, but.... lemons? Really? WHY.

Is it because the creators are japanese and to them even something as tivial as a lemon is as "distant" as a coconot is for us?

Or is it just because they didn't want to make it a native fruit because eating it raw fresh off a tree isn't something you can really do?

Considering that persimmons are also "rare" in ACNL, there's really no logic behind the reasoning of lemons being "rare" because the AC franchise is of Japanese origin.

Personally, I think it's because cherries, apples, pears, oranges and peaches are every day staples for most countries.
Lychees are really only common in China, and even then it's mainly southern China.
Durain is mostly common in SE Asia, but is rarely found elsewhere.
Mangoes, coconuts, bananas et. al are all limited (or at least are native) to tropical regions.
Lastly, persimmons are native to Asia, and I've never really heard of them being grown elsewhere or there even being a big market for them outside of Asia; I lived in the UK for a bit and they were never on sale except at up-class supermarkets.

But with apples, peaches, pears, oranges and cherries, they're so ingrained in most people's minds as staple fruits that we even see them in children's colouring books/ ABC books. So I guess the creators of the game just chose fruits that aren't commonly eaten on a daily basis (how many days of the year can you say that you've eaten a lemon).

I agree that lemons don't have the same "exotic" feel as the other fruits (I wish ACNL had longans...), but that's my reasoning behind it.

Lemons are more used in cooking or drinks than a fruit people actually eat, and since you're able to eat fruit and feed it to villagers, it wouldn't make much sense if you were forced to use lemons for that before getting more fruits other than your native one. That's probably why it's an island fruit, so that you can still have it in your town, but you won't get it as a native fruit.

I honestly think they just call all of the non-original fruits exotic to differentiate them. Just my opinion

I think it's because a lemon tree is quite rare and exotic, not the fruit itself

I guess it is just a rare fruit, that can only be found at the island so it is an exotic fruit.
