Hi! I am new here (but not new to AC!) and I was wondering why people do not like specific fruits? Is it the look of them in the town?

Question about fruit

I think it's just preferences.
Some people don't like the fruit that "blends in" with the trees (Pears are green which are hard to see in spring/summer, oranges blend with fall trees, Pears can blend with fall too.)
Other people have had a certain fruit in all their past towns and want to change it up.
Then there's the people who have had the same fruit every time and want to KEEP that fruit, as a sort of homage to past towns.
Some of us just don't like the way certain fruits look. Or maybe you don't really like that fruit's taste in real life!
For me, I am hoping for anything except Oranges/Cherries. Cherries because they're icky in real life. Oranges because the Perfect version of them looks scary to me, like it has a bug growing in it or something. >.<

I prefer apples simply because you're more likely to find apple/pear trees near me IRL, but I'm not a fan of pears. So apples feel more homely. And I prefer the look of them as perfect fruit.
And then peachs and cherries in the game look nothing like the real things to me.

I'm just not a fan of the aesthetic appearance of pears. They're delicious counterparts also look like rotten pears to me 
but I won't restart if I get them.

When a tree dies in New Leaf both the tree and fruit on it may become Bug Infested!
That kind of creeps me out abit.
I think the Prefect Oranges look like Orange-colored Pears.

I don't want Peaches though because I ended up with them in every past AC game.

Very interesting. I never cared about what fruit I had before, but now I have all kinds of anti-specific fruit thoughts running through my head!!!
I'm the opposite! I want either oranges or cherries.
Oranges because I never had them in WW and we just planted a orange tree IRL. 
I really like the look of the perfect cherries, so I'll settle with those if I have to. I don't want peaches/apples because they're my sister & I's native fruits and the pears are boring, IMO. I kinda like that the oranges look like fat pears. Hah! Since it's easy enough to obtain every fruit, it just comes down to what perfect fruit you want (if you care) and if it matters to you that villagers talk about your native fruit. Both matters to me.
What I used to do is "change" my fruit, once I get my hands on a different fruit I will chop all native trees down slowly and replace them with a different fruit. I intend on doing that again.
Also, what I will do is make a small orchard of my perfect fruit.

The fruit I 'hate' is pears. But it's not because I hate pears in real life. I actually love pears!
When I got Animal Crossing Population Growing on the GameCube way back when, Pears were my town fruit. It took well over 6 months for me to actually get another fruit tree to grow. So for so long, all I could grow were pears. I'd get other fruit, but I was young and didn't figure out how to plant the trees so they would grow. I got so sick of looking at pears that they became my least favorite Animal Crossing fruit. xD

I've actually never gotten the fruit preference either. I don't really care what fruit is my native fruit. I also don't care what kind of grass I have. I only care about the layout and what villagers I have.
I'm very much impartial to the fruit. I really like the look of peaches in Animal Crossing. They look so mouthwatering. At the end of the day, I like them all. I believe my first town had apples, but I wouldn't care if I got them again in New Leaf.
Exactly the same for me, except it was Peaches. My brother also had Peaches so it was months before we realised there were other fruits you could have. I do not want to see Peaches as my native fruit in New Leaf xD
My GCN game was pears too and they get pretty horrid when you have a town full of just pears. I mean... why grow a non fruit tree? lol. (well there are lots of reasons but pear with me (bu-dum))
