I planted some bamboo the other day and it's growing quite quickly. Can anyone tell me if it's just there for decorative purposes or can I harvest it?

Near where your bamboo is growing, there will be dig spots where you can dig up new sprouts to either plant or sell.

You can totally harvest it! Every three (or so?) days, you'll find dig marks around the grown bamboo stalks. If you dig them up, you'll get new bamboo shoots that you can either plant or sell. If you leave the shoots in the ground, they'll start growing into a new bamboo stalk provided they have room to grow.

You actually want to be careful that your town doesn't get overrun with bamboo. Those things grow like weeds!

If you sell then they are worth 750 bells or something....EACH!!!!!!!

I suggest planting a lot of them, then getting large amounts to harvest at a time.

Yeah, but I wouldn't reccomend them as a method for earning money - since you have to dig them up one at a time, it takes much longer than fruit, and even fruit is much more time consuming than simply catching beetles at the island, if you want money! ^_^

I have an additional question about bamboo if anybody is still here. I cut some and it's been cut for quite a while. Do the tops ever grow back after cutting?

Haha, I just discovered today that you can have 9 bamboos in one space in your inventory, just like fruit. That could've been useful earlier. :P

Nah, they don't grow back after you cut them. They work just like trees. But cut-down bamboo actually looks really cute, in my opinion. They can actually be very decorative.

Thank you! I like it, too. I guess if I ever change my mind I can always replant. But the cut bamboo really looks great especially in the winter when it is blueish. :)

I never thought of it being like a cut tree. Good point!

I got tired of digging them up. They were like the bubonic plague.
