Question about Amiibo cards and the 16 villager cycle

I'm asking in case if the following happens.

Say one of my villagers moved out during a hiatus. Would I be able to buy and scan their Amiibo card to move them back in right away, or would I have to complete the 16 villager cycle first?

The Amiibo cards circumvent the 16 villager cycle, so you would not have to wait. You could move them back in immediately.

You can move them right back in indeed, and they'll even sometimes vaguely recognise or remember you!
