I'm trying to finish a time-sensitive trade with a friend in Singapore (aka huge time difference) and what happens when I try to visit her town? That's right! Error Code 018-0511!

The Nintendo help forums offer precisely squat as far as help goes. The best I can find is some oily forum user fanboy who keeps spamming the same insulting non-fix with the same passive-aggressive canned smiley face emote posted with a quip about how this couldn't POSSIBLY be Nintendo's fault, but with each and every one of our perfectly working routers. Something about DMZ and adding your 3DS network code into your router settings which is stupid for several reasons. Basically, there's absolutely no fix that I can find.

Has anyone else come across this? It's really aggravating and of course Nin won't do a dang thing about it. They haven't even addressed the issue directly at all. Help!

Erm...
Well I know two somewhat resolutions...
1. It happens sometimes to me as well, I had to try at least 3 times, but after that it worked. Maybe some random Wi-Fi error?
2. Someone else is trying to go to the town at the same time

It's happened to me before. Can the trade be done in your town? I had the person visit me and that worked fine, even though I couldn't visit them.

Tried to connect 5 times, both of us power cycled our systems, nothing. It's 3 AM here, pretty sure no one else is trying to come to her town, and certainly not over the course of 20 minutes with the two of us both making the same repeated attempts at the same time.

Nope. It involves a villager.

Going on attempt #15. Same error. *sigh*

Good news Amykins. I'm from Singapore :3 Even though I'm not Singaporean. The router we use in Singapore for our WiFi is probabltydifferent than what you guys have in North-America. So sometimes the routers/modems from my North-American traders do not match mine, leading to errors. And the company who is in charge of our WiFi ain't that great :D

Oh, no! Does that mean I won't be able to get Rudy, after all? We're going to try again tonight (my tonight, your daytime hehe) but if it fails again I just won't know what to do.

Thanks for the input though, it makes me feel a little better, at least. :3

Yeah, to my understanding, this error has to due with router incompatibility, so it's more likely to happen when playing with other people internationally, since the routers are more likely to be very different.
I don't know if there's really a fix for it, though.

Even THAT wouldn't be so bad if Nintendo would just acknowledge it! But they've never even admitted that there's an issue at all, even though this problem has existed since launch. All they'd have to do is say "there may be router incompatibility with international trades" but no, they'd never do that because that would admit any form of culpability. Sigh.

Sorry for the Nintendo hate, but I used to work for NOA and I can tell you from personal experience that they give precisely zero f***s about customer satisfaction.

Well I mean, if you look up the error code it kind of says it in a long-winded way. It also has some troubleshooting for it.

Not really though, since the "workaround" they give is total B.S. and utterly useless. It's basically blaming the consumer and acting like they're too dumb to realize that the process given has absolutely zero bearing on the game's connectivity, especially since you n eed to be connected anyway in order to even get to the point where you receive the error.

I get the error one in every five villager adoptions I do. I'm pretty used to it.
