I've seen a lot of people with secondary characters, and I'm considering making a secondary character, but... I'm not exactly sure why people do it. I'm limited on space in my town, but I do need more storage for all my furniture and such.

Can you guys list some pros in making a new character? I just want to be convinced that it'll be worth it.

Patterns
More space
More places to decorate your house
Turnip stash? lol idk but I think these are pretty good reasons! c:

Pros:
360 extra furniture/whatever/etc. slots
10 extra pattern slots
Helpful if making a themed dream town
More rooms to throw stuff in

Cons:
Loss of a 3x5 space in your town.
That's it.

Yeah, I was thinking about the patterns/turnips thing as well. I may just make the character and use him as a pattern/storage slave and not really do anything else with him. :3

I like having another house to decorate!
If you choose one of the more complicated paths, they typically have 14 different squares (to accommodate corners and all that). So it becomes necessary to have a second character to put down the pathway.

I have 4 characters in both my towns. In my second town, the houses are more themed (one is a classroom, another a mall).

I've seen a couple towns where people never buy the house on their second character and leave the tent. And make it like a campground. Which I think is a really cute idea!

I had this question too on is it worth creating a second character and hopefully I can help convince you :)

The obvious stuff first would be another locker (180 slots) worth of storage so you can categorize and organize your items much better instead of laying things out everywhere. This is especially helpful if you're more of a hoarder. Another character means 10 more custom design slots available so you can make your town even more unique if you so desire. Another positive would be when a special visitor arrive at your town like a redd, katrina, saharrah, you could get 2-4x the benefit using multiple characters instead of just one.

They are useful as town themed characters and/or just as extra houses if you have a specific theme in mind. Like say for example your theme is hyrule, so you could make two extra characters with one being ganondorf and the other being zelda and have those two castles decorated accordingly to really make it feel more real that you're in hyrule.

I know there's more but that's all I can really think of atm. I'll get back to you once I can think of a few more (really tired atm still haven't woken up haha :P)

My reason is:

I need that alt to store my bushes, fruits, saplings and he is my mayor assistant xD

I'm not really going for a town "theme", especially with houses, (I'm not really much into that stuff anyway) so I may just make the character for extra space and patterns. Thank you guys very much! If you guys want you can continue to post more reasons why to own a second character; it may inspire me and give me new ideas. :3

Another possibility is if you have a themed town, an extra character can add to that? Like, since I (obviously) have an Alice in Wonderland town, I have two extra characters to be the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter. I get to dress them up like these characters and make their houses appropriately themed for them. :D

Edit: LOL, duh, I just noticed that had already been discussed. Don't mind me... *awkwardly shuffles out*

I use my two extra characters to store turnips and paths, just as long as you don't forget about the turnips you should be fine! :D

Also, let's say you want to make a camping area in your town. Characters start off having a tent until you pay Nook, so if you don't pay him it keeps the tent and looks like an actual campsite. Pretty helpful since there is no tent PWP!

This tent idea sounds really cute; I think I may do that as well!

I used all four characters mostly because of all the different styled homes/rooms I want.
Every room in all four of my homes (all four are fully expanded) is a different theme/set.

I also can't imagine not using the extra space. I have ZERO space left in my closets on my main character, and my other characters are starting to fill up as well.

I also have a full set of patterns on my main character that I like to WEAR, so the patterns that I use to brick my town are saved on my other characters.

I guess I am setting my other chars for the Dream bit, as well as extra storage.
I actually have 2 extra chars atm, though there is no real theme to them asides from the fact that they are my favorite characters.
But I have both alt houses at max renovation, basically how it'll work is that, when you enter the house, you're going into a different world sort of thing, and the houses in general should trigger nostalgia or clearly represents something in regards to it.
The 2 alt house themes are:
EarthBound. (Exterior looks like Ness' house.)
Homestuck. (Exterior looks something like a communal hive stem.)

I'm considering the last char to be Mario, with the castle/fairy tale exterior to so all 3 exterior styles are on display.
I have the room themes in mind for the Mario one already but I'm waiting on getting Whitney and Agent S before I add the last char.

Pros
- You can double the event items you get
- More storage space
- Can act as a blank slot to get rid of some unwanted villagers
- Display more furniture
- 10 more slots for designs
- Turnip storage

Cons
- Takes up some space
- MOAR MORTGAGES
- You'd have to also go on your secondary character, which can be a become a bother

Pretty sure it's so villagers don't plot their house wherever the 2nd char's tent is, it's acting like a free PWP that you can demolish for free.

I forgot there's also these upsides to having a 2nd char:
+ 1 more Money Rock, which means a 2nd chance of an ore rock too.
And the monthly interest could also count..
