Preventing save data corruption?

Hey everyone. I just wanted to drop in and clarify that we do prefer it if the discussion/promotion of hacking devices is kept off of the forum, as it does go against our rules regarding prohibited content. The reasoning behind using such a device is irrelevant; it's still considered a hacking device regardless of whether or not someone uses it solely for data backups. We obviously can't stop you from discussing such things via PM, but please don't link or promote the usage of these things within the forums.

I don't know if this will help but I have multiple cartridges(I have no digital copies) and I've yet to have any file corruption in the two plus years I've been playing ACNL.I have dropped my 3DS while playing,have had the battery die in the middle of playing and I've had the cartridge pop out during play.I also switch between three different 3DS's,so I do play with three different SD cards.I have done a ton of villager/plot resetting with both regular towns and cycling towns.Here's a few things I do and don't do that might factor in:

-I've never removed the SD card from any of my 3DS's
-I don't update my 3DS's.Whenever the update notification comes up,I ignore it.All my 3DS's seem to operate normally.
-I always keep my 3DS's charged and always plug them in as soon as the low battery light comes on.
-Even though the 3DS is portable,I rarely take them anywhere.They stay indoors 99% of the time.
-I don't hack or use Powersaves or dupe.

I'm not sure if it's how I handle my 3DS's or if I've just been very lucky.I hope this helps.

i think saves corrupting is rare, and if you've experienced it without hacking etc you're just really unlucky.

If you have one cartridge and play acnl on a specific memory card, then don't try to create another town using the same cartridge on a different memory card or it will overwrite your previous memory.

this is pretty obvious, but can switching between consoles with different memory cards damage the save files?
i do that a lot, so i sure hope not... @ _@

Did anyone notice any abnormalities in their towns prior to save data corruption? Recently, I've noticed that when I run quickly past certain areas (usually ones with a lot of flowers/patterns), my game lags a bit. I don't believe that this has always happened and hopefully it has nothing to do with the integrity of the game...

I'm terrified of this happening so much. To the point where, if someone stole my 3DS, I'd be happy to let them keep it as long as they gave back ACNL and Pokemon X. So many hours of my life have gone into them D:

no. for the past 2 years i constantly switched between consoles, with the physical copy you don't even need to use the same sd card. the sd card has nothing to do with the game {at least to the extent where not having it in could corrupt your file!}

I've never worried about this until fairly recently, because it was some time last month that I found out about this happening to other people. The fact that I've had a game of mine (that wasn't Animal Crossing) corrupt before certainly doesn't help.

I'm terrified of losing well over 900 hours' worth of hard work, but I calm down about it when I think about the fact that I've had WW for 7+ years, and never had it corrupt. That, and how unlikely it is to happen.

That's what I keep telling myself, I've had WW forever as well and it's still fine. But apparently it happens more often in New Leaf...AHHH

Data corruption are usually at a saving fault. Basically 1/1000 people will get corrupt , so its tough anyway. It doesn't happen to a lot of people to begin with, so as long as you remember to wait while saving you should be fine!
My cartridge is 2 years and 2 months (exactly woo), and I time travel and used to Dupe, so I am basically proof that it does not happen a lot. As long as you are not constantly making saved files on your desktop of you towns internal coding, corruptions should be very rare
