The media always says something negative about video games, but why haven't they addressed the positive things that video games can do. That's what this topic is about.

Relax and even relieve stress
Some games such as Pikmin, flower and animal crossing can be great games to relax yourself after a long day. They can also be a way to "get away" if you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

Getting rid of anger
Despite all the negatives they state about violent games, they can be a good way to let out anger without lay it on real people

Livin' the dream
Video games can allow people to live their dreams early. For example, have you ever wanted to be a basketball player? Go buy an NBA 20K game and start now while you "work on it in real life too".

Get that bad stuff out of your system
People say that violent games or games with inappropriate content are bad. However, they can be a good way to get all negative thoughts and urges out of your system without you doing them in real life. For example, what if one day you just have a thought of going on a massacre. Don't do it real life, you will be taking out many innocent lives and you could go to prison. Go buy GTA and fulfil your massacre urge.

Make boring things fun
There are many games that make things that are usually boring, fun. Examples are Brain Age and Wii Fit. Wii Fit makes actual fitness fun. Brain Age makes training your brain actually fun.

Anyway, what positives can you think about? What do think about mine?

Stress relief is a big one. I need to escape in another world for a while sometimes to relax.

Learning new things is a good one for me. I play a lot of music games, but I've really gotten into the ones that let you play real instruments. I have learned some real drums, guitar, and bass thanks to Rock Band, Rocksmith, and soon to be BandFuse. I also have learned some about playing keyboard and singing too.

Back when I played Dance Dance Revolution all the time I actually lost some weight from that too, so even though gamers have the reputation of being couch potatoes, video games can potentially be healthy too.

Inspiration and creativity is my main positive for video games. I've played video games for as long as I have a memory. Video games have inspired me when I create characters for stories, they have taught me how to tell a compelling story, taught me how to write villains, and I've seen hundreds upon hundreds of worlds I may never have imagined possible were it not for the medium of video games.

I may not be anywhere near as creative a person as I am now were it not for being fascinated by the worlds and characters of Lunar, Final Fantasy VI, Breath of Fire, Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, and many others growing up.

I play mostly RPGs and prefer an interactive medium for storytelling vs. watching a movie or simply reading a book. I like being part of the story and influencing what happens! I think video games can be an excellent way to tell complex and meaningful stories.

For someone who has failed and disappointed in many things, and made some stupid life decisions/mistakes video games have always given me a sense of accomplishment.
It helps bond friendships and relationships. If you find someone who games just as much as you do is always great. Friends/couples who game together stay together.
I was 15 when my best friend passed. So I got into deep depression when I was 16/17. All I ever did was sleep and went to school if I had to then go home and slept. I'd force myself to sleep all the time. Sleep sleep sleep. Eventually I started playing games that he and I used to play as kids and just laughed and smiled whenever some of those good memories started coming back to me. It helped me cope.

In my case, it relieves stress. If I didn't have video games god knows what I'd be like...
