population growing, not!

I think it stands of Gamecube Nintendo

On topic: A lot of people use Animal Crossing to refer to the series, not the gamecube game; so whether or not it's its actual name, it provides a way to distinguish between each installment.

Honestly, it bothers me when people call it that. :lemon:

Also when people called ACNL "Jump Out" even after the English name was announced. I don't think anyone does that anymore though.

Yup!

How about "Animal Crossing Game Cube" (GC)! It's more accurate! Less syllables, easier to say! :-D

Population Growing rolls off the tongue better for me.

It's easier for ME to say because it's only two words and sounds a lot better than "animal crossing game cube." That sounds awkward.

Technically speaking, it could be considered a subtitle. After all, there was a game called Animal Crossing for the Nintendo 64, along with Animal Crossing+ and Animal Crossing e+, so calling it ACPG could be useful to differentiate.

This. If you say Animal Crossing I imagine you're solely referring to the N64 version, and I prefer ACPG over ACGC the same way I prefer ACNL over AC3DS.

Same for me. I own the first Animal Crossing title (Animal Forest/doubutsu no mori on N64), So "Population: Growing" is something i've naturally come to use, formally, to differentiate the games.

Admittedly, i've only referred to it that way since Wild World was released. lol

It's no big deal either way :P

Also "Animal Forest" is the direct translation. It's name was changed for international release just like many other games. Much like "Pokemon Stadium 2" which was called "Pokemon Stadium Gold & Silver" in Japan because "Pokemon Stadium Gold & Silver" was actually their 3rd instalment of the series, unlike the EU/NA releases, in which it was only the 2nd instalment.

I never thought it was 'Population: Growing,' but ever since joining the forums, I've adopted the title. It's got a nice ring to it.

I didn't really notice until now that New Leaf is the first in the series to not have a sign containing text/subtitle dangling from the logo text... clever. I long forgot that the Gamecube version even had that until I noticed the forum here had adopted "Population Growing" as a subtitle.

It truly is turning over a new leaf XD

I've always just called it the original Animal Crossing or the one on gamecube. I don't see the big deal as long as everyone knows what you're talking about.

Yeah, I knew that Population Growing wasn't actually what it was called, and as far as I'm concerned, the Gamecube version is just an updated version of the old N64 Animal Forest version... I would always refer to the first version as Animal Forest. I mean, it's just EASIER to differentiate each game easier then. If I just said "Animal Crossing", you wouldn't know if I was talking about the series as a whole or the first game... Population Growing, yeah sure, it's just a lot easier that way. x'D

I know! I don't know why people think it's called that. It's just a sign a city has.
Population: 10,000
But they were trying to say that you and other players and the town is always changing. Doi.

Well, I was tired of seeing people argue, (plus I knew I was right ;) haha), so I took the liberty of emailing Nintendo directly to answer this question.

Here is my email:

And here is Nintendo's reply:

Looks like it wasn't just a sign after all. The official title is: "Animal Crossing: Population Growing".
Of course, now we know it's official, the additional "Population Growing" title was clearly added to differentiate from the previous titles in the series, in Japan.

I guess that settles it. To be honest though, I never knew that was the name of the game, despite having played it since just after it was originally released. When I saw someone listing out the games in the series they had played, and one of them was AC:PG, I really did think there had been another one released somewhere that I had missed. Guess you learn something new every day.

I've never heard of it being called "Population Growing". I've simply heard it called Animal Crossing or abbreviated as AC:GC.

And I really don't see the big deal, OP. If someone wants to call it "Population Growing", let them call it that. No harm done. (:
