Pond fish in the river??

I thought the carp WAS a river fish :D

EDIT: Oh I see now that in New Horizons it's strictly a pond fish... but I'm curious, is there a pond immediately below that river of yours? :)

Yes, it's just below in the low right corner...

 sooo, maybe they are too close? It's the first time i saw it happen

Is the river connected to the sea or to a waterfall? If not, the game counts it as a pond.

It' connected to the sea, but it's there since he beginning (haven't even terraformed). I'm 100% sure it's a river, because I always fish there

Apparently, the opposite also happens. If the pond is too big, it becomes a river despite not being connected to anything.

To those who are "well maybe game thinks it's... for... reason"
If the bobber moves from where you cast it - game classifies as river
If the bobber doesn't move from where you cast it - game classifies as pond

Your bobber is moving, so clearly the game is classifying it as a river (even if it wasn't your original river) ... It is odd.

Or I think too close to the ocean? I have a pond right out of my airport gate that has a current and gives me river fish.

It is strange... but:

as it was pointed out, my river is really close to a pond... maybe they are too close and fish supposed to spwan in the pond "glitched" in the river

A body of water can be a river even if it's not connected to the sea or a waterfall as long as it's long enough relative to it's width. The bobber test described in a post above will tell you if an enclosed body of water is a river or pond. A body of water connected to a waterfall or the sea will always be a river regardless of size or shape.

I've caught loads of killifish in the river (I've gotten more from there than in the pond), and I'm pretty sure I've gotten goldfish and carp in there as well. I thought it was weird but I just thought it was intentional somehow. I'm think I've also caught black bass in the pond.
