Poll to Decide a Board's Bells

Spam is a post that is off-topic in the board. That's what qualifies a lot of posts in the cycling threads as spam, in my mind.

I am inclined to agree with this, but does that mean that comments that an OP says to give a reason for why he/she was away for a while is spam?

I voted that it should be changed. I used to spend a lot of time in the Villager Trading Plaza. A lot of the cycling threads turned into "offline, come chat with us." or "you have to actively chat in my cycling thread for me to give away my villagers to you." I don't know how much Re-Tail may have changed but when I was active in the board it use to be when they were offline people would be making orders which is understandable. I saw some chatting but usually Animal Crossing related. In Cycling threads it's more like telling what happened at school, your day, what you ate, what your plans are, etc. I've been on the fence of giving away all my villagers and making a continuous like cycling thread for it, and wouldn't care if they took away the bell earnings.

Well, you have to have some leeway, Silversea, I get that, but when it becomes this massive 3000-post thread, you can't honestly think that all of the posts are on topic or "the OP saying where they were".

No, people (I shall not name names) spam that thread for the bells, like wise re what do you look like thread until it was moved! It's infuriating.

I believe the bells are intended to reward participation on the board. We each come to this board for independent reasons and take away what we value. This forum should be as inclusive and rewarding for all who participate, respective to their purpose for visiting. Cyclers provide a great service to the community and I imagine it gets a bit boring. I believe their service to the community out weighs the negative spam element.

I further my position with the self policing nature of this forum. We have moderators yes, but they are not all seeing. This forum has a reporting mechanism so that any of us can report behavior which violates the guidelines. Reporting usually has positive outcomes. It draws attention to a specific post so that a moderator can take appropriate action. The moderator can then coach the person, who probably didn't intend any infraction and then corrects the behavior.

While removing bells earned for that section is an easy and quick fix, I believe it is the wrong course of action. Anyone who sees a post which doesnt belong should use the report post function. You could also invite the cyclers themselves to watch over their threads and guide the posters in their threads.

The point I'm trying to get across is that there are other options which more effectively target the perceived problem. I must vote in favor of the status quo at this time.

I don't think this should be implemented. First, there haven't been any complaints about the Ra-Tail board (as far as I know), and VTP is essentially a Re-Tail for villagers. It's allowed because we contribute to this community in the form of ACNL services. Sure, those comments are General Discussion 2.0, but that does not justify the reasoning behind taking away part of the reward that is earned by taking time out of one's day and cycling.

So, you're agreeing that the posts are spam, but you still want to be rewarded for said spam.

Some comments are indeed spam. However, I think all of the dedicated cylers, sells, etc. deserve to earn a few bells for their trouble.

They probably mean the actual cycling they do. They kind of have to post if they want villagers to be adopted.

Well, I certainly think it's better that both the people putting effort into cycling than for those spam and for those who put lots of effort to get nothing. I mean, these people are giving villagers away for free. The least that can be done is to provide a few TBT Bells. Unless we can have some amazing filter that can detect spam comments like that, those that are offering should be rewarded, and those that spam should be ignored until it gets out of hand or they decide to stop.

Entirely removing TBT earnings will probably not fix the issue, because as said before by other users some people don't post for TBT bells. They post just because, and some of them probably don't even know its earning them anything.

At the moment the only consensus I see is to give TBT bell earnings, but up to a limit. The first (let's say 4) posts per day give credit, any further posts do not. This is effectively middle ground that eliminates spammers but keeps earnings for on topic users.

Oath, we already have a rule that deals with this. If we implement the no TBT Bell rule in VTP, you're hurting the dedicated cyclers when we already have a rule put in place to fix such an issue that you bring up.

I don't care if they get TBT bells or not -- I didn't even know not all boards got them. I can see your point, but are you really going to try and police OT chat in this whole forum? I think the people active in the VTP would have the right to be unhappy about all the people doing the same thing elsewhere. I wouldn't want to have to think about whether my saying "oh your art is so cute" is actually ok. I would guess that it technically isn't.

I see you have a post from my thread in your examples. Who cares if people want to chat with each other while others are cycling? It's pretty lonely otherwise. Honestly I never even realized how you got TBT bells until you pointed it out. What's the big deal? The only use I've actually seen for these bells is getting some cute little add-on's for your avatar and such.

However I don't understand the actual problem with TBT/cycle posts. I honestly post to talk to friends not to earn TBT bells....as you can you see.

I, for one, never thought about getting bells for each post. That's just a bonus. I didn't even discover you would get bells for posts until looking at my currency, but they're fractions of bells, so why bother complaining about it? Sure, spam like a simple "lol" or "that's cute" is not necessary, but saying "No bells for dem VTP derps" is a little far fetched.
