I am just now learning that they got rid of those!?!?!? I had no idea!! I loved those, I remember my first island was windflower hybrids and I was so excited! I remember getting all the pink ones. I had no idea that got patched out. Was it patched in the 2.0 update? After I got all my villagers I rarely ever went to the islands unless I needed trees and didn’t want to wait for saplings to grow. Such a disservice to remove those islands.

I don't remember how many I've been to, I know it's not a lot though. I'm sad they got rid of them 😞

What was even the point of getting rid of them? It doesn't make sense since they actually took the time to make the islands. The game was already so bare when it launched so getting rid of more content just feels like such a bad move on their part. Was this ever addressed or was there a reason for it?

I think I remember going to one, but I don't think I took the flowers or if I did I sold them?

I think around 5 times. Definitely several times to where I didn't really count too much. I was heavily island hopping though in the beginning mostly for the tarantula island and bamboo islands before I finally just went turnip route.
I do remember the majority being lily hybrids which I think annoyed me at the time because my island was originally lily.

restarting on a new island really puts into perspective how strangely punitive these islands removal was, honestly. 😔

its not an insignificant amount of effort to even find a hybrid mystery island. and i imagine the joy i would have gotten running into one on this new island amongst my recent 150 NMT hunt,, and dang, it's depressing all over again ! make it (the removal) make sense !

totally agree blue ! i was around and also never remember getting an explanation for why they removed them at the height of popularity. its not that going to other islands (and therefore buying nintendo online) is necessary for the hybridization. soooo 🥸❓why !

I didn't even know it was removed wtfffff

I have visited it though, I forget how many times though. Maybe like 2 or 3?

Right? It was sort of like how they nerfed the interest from the bank after launch where it's so pathetically low compared to previous entries or nerfed the spawn rate of one of the butterflies. The game is already mega-grindy compared to the other entries and this just made it more so.

the butterfly !!! omgggg. i had forgotten that. YEAH. that is so wild. what WERE they thinking....

Tbh i think removing them was the right choice.
It made getting hybrids far too easy. And even beyond the ones you found.
I got green mums just by the hybrid flower island flowers being rained on.
These are meant to be things you work towards.

Nothing stops players from giving hybrids to other players. And hybrids will self replicate when planted together, so there's no shortage. My entire island would be overrun with blue roses if I didn't dig them up and throw them away routinely

I dont disagree that you can trade for them, but they're also designed to be something you work towards. A challenge to overcome and be proud of. (Some of them at least)

Anything in the game can be traded for but the game shouldnt be designed on the assumption of it happening.

Im proud of the blue roses I grew for myself, and feel that the hybrid island took away my chance to grow green mums for myself.
Sure i could have chucked them but that would have felt bad too.

Personally I feel hybrids should remain something the player earns for themselves.

I don't like anything that feels like a needless grind in this game. The point for me is to decorate and have fun with my villagers and sometimes other players. Why remove an island type when people can trade for the flowers anyway?

Yeah, I didn't start playing until they were removed, and there was something else too, I think being able to bury the star things? I can't remember right now. At any rate, I'm thinking hybrid islands went by the wayside after Kapp'n and all of his mystery island tours give a bunch of different options, but still, I would very much enjoy occasionally running across a hybrid island.

And you would still have had that option. Other people, however, might well enjoy not having to try to cross for every single hybrid in their game, especially some of us who've done it so many times that a little nudge in that direction (without out-and-out trading for them) would be HUGELY appreciated.
