Basically I've been playing Pokemon since Gen1. I have never been real big on battling others, so I just stuck to collecting and trading. Recently, I'm thinking I want to try battling. What I'm looking for is someone to take me under their wing so to speak and teach me the basics. I found a few guides online but I'm seeing terms like "Wall", "Annoyer", and "Special Wall". I'm so lost about all that xD

I'd like someone to coach me through things, and help me to understand these terms and how to build a decent battle team.

Anyone willing to do this?

I'm probably not good enough to coach and stuff, but maybe I can give some tips?
There are many YouTube videos that help with competitive battling, and sometimes just watching random people battle can develop a tiny bit of skill. Using Pokemon Showdown is also a good way to try a team before using it in game.

Wall - Pokemon that can Sponge Hits
Annoyer - Like the word says, an Annoyer. Like SwagKeys, which made Klefki a pretty good annoyer. As well as Togekiss's Paraflinch is pretty annoying. So most Annoyer's are hax based.
Special Wall - Same as a Wall, but for Special Moves like Surf and stuff.

Do you have any questions? >.<

I'll welcome any advice, links to guides, resources, etc.

Just PM me or post here. :)

So I transferred my old all Electric team from White 2 to Y, and battled a random passerby from Japan.

Here's my Electric Team:
Eelektross
Ampharos
Jolteon
Electabuzz
Luxray
Manectric

I won against his:
Delphox
Yveltal
Zygarde
Regigigas
Greninja
Talonflame

Zygarde gave me the most trouble, took about 5 turns to kill it. Everything else was 1-2HKO :P
Yay for my very first online win!

Look up articles on Smogon if you get lost, but I'll give you the simple rundown on the lingo

Wall - A pokemon that can take hits easier (Special walls have high Special Defense, and physical walls high Defense)

Sweeper - A pokemon that can KO multiple pokemon at a time (look up Epic pokemon sweeps) (physcal sweepers use attack while special sweepers use special attack)

Staller - A pokemon that can wait out status inflictions, like burn, toxic, leech seed, ect

Subseeder - A pokemon with substitute and leech seed in their moveset. A great kind of staller to have

Sub - A pokemon with substitute in their moveset

Metagame - the official OU match, no ubers allowed

EVs - Effort Values, points given to a pokemon that count towards any given stats. You can EV train by using Super Training

IV's - Individual Values, points given to a pokemon when they hatch from an egg. You can check a pokemon's IV's by talking to the psychic in the pokemon center in Kiloude City

LC - Little cup (baby lv 5 pokemon battle to the death)
RU - Rarely used (anything above RU tier is banned)
NU- Never used (anything above NU tier is banned)
UU- Underused (anything above UU tier is banned)
OU - Overused (anything above OU tier is banned)
Uber - Above overused (no bans on anything, it's all free game here)

Hope this helped ^^

If you want any help building a team I could help, before you make it in game though it would probably be better to test it out HERE, It helps to find out what is effective before you spend all that time and effort making a pokemon in-game. It can be hard to understand at times though. Ill help you if you need it.

That would be great!

I went up against a Chansey awhile ago.....completely decimated my team xD

Seismic Toss
Toxic
Softboiled

I never saw the 4th move....

did i not send you the team that i put together. i think i had it all typed up but my outbox was full or something and i forgot to send it???

A good way to test teams is with Pokemon Showdown. It lets you build your own team from scratch, complete with IVs, EVs, and natures. Then you can test it against other players.

I've yet to try that actually.

Cinccino with Skill Link holding a King's Rock is also considered annoying.
