I haven't played for a couple of months but I recall the plot being empty the day after the villager has moved and then sold to a random villager on day two if you hadn't already invited someone by then. is my game bugged or is this a patch of some kind? I haven't time traveled or played online or anything. I'm a little confused :| thanks in advance!

I think you have up to two days of an empty plot(two days is more rare though), and on day three you should have the plot sold. If by day three you don't have it sold I just invite someone from a nook miles island, or an amiibo, and hopefully that should fix anything should you have a glitch.

Its just random when someone claims the plot. I've had one go unclaimed for four days before.

On my last island before I reset just recently, one of my empty plots didn't get claim for three weeks, so it's completely random how long it takes for a plot to be bought. I'm not sure exactly how long it can take for a villager to buy a plot, so just keep checking everyday. It will be bought eventually. 🙂

It's also much more likely that a plot wouldn't be sold very quickly if you haven't played AC for a couple of months, as you wouldn't get anyone's "voided" villagers from their queue after traveling to other peoples islands for trades or what not.
