So, I've seen quite a few towns out there with villagers aligned in amazing ways and I always think to myself I can't imagine the patience it took to get them all set up so perfectly.
I've reset quite a bit to move them so they aren't in an orchard or a patch of hybrids or the middle of a path, but I'm finally looking to do it for a very specific spot. I have had villagers in the spot before so I know they will move there, but I have been resetting all day and had him move into every other available area besides the one I want him in.
What kind of time frames has it taken for those of you with perfectly lined up or perfectly placed villager houses to get them that way?
I feel like I just need to know that the end is in sight... I'm getting so bored.

I've been plot-resetting trying to get a villager into a perfectly reasonable place for the last few days. Well, one moment of looking at the TV, and I chose the mayor by accident and that's it. :(

He was absolutely dead set on putting his house as close to mine as possible I guess. *sighs*

And this is precisely why I plot reset now. I don't care about having every house perfectly aligned because it just looks weird to me (I guess I'd rather the house placement look a little bit...organic?), but I put my house by the ocean in an isolated little alcove for a reason.

i usually have my town landscaped a certain way and HOPE that villagers plot in the correct spot after a few tries. usually i just give up and settle for something as long as it's somehow aligned nicely and try to landscape it to fit their placement. it's worked a bit but it's so frustrating. :c

true, I definitely don't want them lined up all in a row or anything, but fitting into a few certain "areas" is all I'm asking, and he just won't move anywhere close.
I really hope I don't accidentally load a previous character because he's been picking some really terrible spots among my landscaping...

Oh gosh, it can take what seems like YEARS! For me Merengue took quite a number of days resetting very often to go in the right spot, whereas Molly was perfect the first try!

It always helps to have PWP's set up where they are trying to move, so if there is a spot your villager seems to gravitate towards, you can TT back to the day you invited them and set up a PWP there (you can always check that the plot has not shown up on this day with a new character first in case you make a mistake choosing the right date/time!)

Other than that you will just need a LOT of patience! You could also try this tip here: http://tommycrossing.tumblr.com/post/94442848345/plot-reset-tip-pattern-breaking-note-that-this about breaking the reset pattern, though it doesn't work for everyone (It doesn't seem to work for me however it does break up the monotony a tad so heres to that!)

So good luck and hopefully you get that wonderful feeling once the villager is finally in the right spot very soon!

It's not as bad as it could be, but certainly not where I wanted him... I can deal with it, but every time I pass by the place I wanted him, I'm going to cringe. I'm just grieving over my lost effort (2-3 days worth T.T ) and trying to keep it in mind that at least his house isn't in a pathway or something like that.

The longest I had to plot reset was two full days because I wasn't sure Cousteau could move into the spot and I kept second guessing myself if I should just let him move into my cherry orchard and be parallel with Ken. However, I kept persisting after I saw on the start up screen that he was able to fit his house in the exact 3x3 I wanted.

So far I've been lucky and didn't have to reset more than one day except for Cousteau which was the longest. I made sure to take breaks in between or just go on youtube and put on a video that is just in the background and plot reset at the same time. I made sure to also place a pwp beforehand and not try to get too sleepy because that messed me up so badly with Rod. Sometimes powering off helps with resetting some of the areas the plot keep going to.

I'm currently plot resetting Poppy and it's been almost two weeks now -_- She insists on squeezing her plot behind my mayor's house even though there is plenty of space near where I want her to be, and it's crossed my mind on settling with one of those areas where she lands somewhat near where I plan her to be. But of course I'm thinking I'm going to regret it in the future so I continue plot resetting. sigh...

If you keep getting the same pattern of plots, hit the power button, and istead of going to the home screen, power down. It "resets" the patterns you get.

I've done this several times, sadly it doesn't work for me :c

It does work, but it depends on how many areas you have available, space-wise, for the villager to plot.

Yeah, but I'm just talking about how it works for me personally. It probably does for many others.

I actually never knew about plot resetting until I joined this forum. In the past, when a villager put their house on a path or in the middle of a bunch of flowers, I'd just shrug it off and work everything around their house. I'll admit, it's a little embarrassing knowing what I do now. Luckily, I haven't had any problems with a villager's plot placement since I restarted my town.

i really believe the whole 'press power to break the chain' tip is really as hit or miss as hitting home. when i was plot resetting for marshal and olivia no matter what button i pressed their homes would be in random areas of my town. hitting power just brought them back to where they were plotting while i was pressing home. i guess it's different for everyone, but i was plot resetting for them within a few days of each other.

I tried plot resetting in my very first town, but I gave up after 5 tries. Didn't have the patience whatsoever, and my first town is a wreck anyways.

After resetting that wreck, I found an amazing town layout, with a long strip to the left. I wanted to arrange it so there will be 4 villager houses in two vertical rows, with three spots between the houses (up, down, left and right). I could only fit 8 there, so one of them (Hazel) is near my house, and Zucker is near the waterfall (since he's an octopus aha).

Now, I never had any patience whatsoever, so this was a huge pain.
I was actually so surprised when I plot resetted Lolly, it took roughly 30-40 minutes, and that was when only Chrissy was on the lane. It took ages for Zucker, and I gave up, so I decided to let him plot near the waterfall. Other than that, I'll be getting another Dreamie soon and it's back to plot resetting again ;-;
I am so glad that no villagers will want to move out during the whole process QwQ

I spent 6 days plot resetting to get Lucky. The game kept giving me lazy villagers for my next random move in and I ended up going through Beau, Benjamin, Big Top, Zucker (x2), Boomer, Cranston (x2), Erik, Puck, Tucker, Deli, Filbert, Chester (x2), Moe (x2), Barold, Biskit, Bones, Ozzie, Punchy, Anchovy, Doc, Stitches (x2), Marcel, Jeremiah (x2), Nate, Al, Simon until I got Lucky. So of course I was stuck wherever he decided to put his house. Luckily (hahaha) it wasn't too bad of a spot.

Six extremely maddening days.

To narrow down where they can put their house, i place cheap pwps where I don't want them to place their house. The rack of rice is the best for this one because its 3x1 squares and it's quite cheap for a pwp that big
