PLEASE HELP: Can't catch a scorpion

I'd recommend not equipping your net until you see one. Move carefully while searching for one, don't run at all. When you do find one, equip your net and sneak up on it from behind. If it notices you and makes a hissing noise, don't move. Wait until it turns away from you then sneak up on it again.

In addition, this video is a good demonstration:

aaaaaaaa i had suCH a hard time catching a scorpion and tarantula back in july )x i cleared out a big area outside my train station and walked in and out until one would spawn lmao.. managed to catch a scorpion but not a tarantula...

a thing !! don't walk around looking for them with your net out, they will attack you if you do. instead, when you see one, take your net out and carefully walk up to them. good luck, you'll probabaly need it )x

When it hisses at you, you can just keep slowly sneaking up to it and it will just keep sitting there and hissing. Once you get close enough, just release A and you've got it.

Oh dear... not the old scorpions and tarantulas.

Just watch that linked video and be persistent throughout the night. It might take a while! :P

I've caught them head on-- i've never managed to sneak up behind one. I don't usually notice them until they're hissing at me, then I get my net ready and slowly advance and time it so i nab them. I've gotten bit a few times though. it's pretty hilarious passing out and everything.

I've also only caught them head on. I just wait for the scorpion to start hissing and run towards it. Maybe that's a bad strategy but I'm really quick with my net and it works.

The tarantula is actually harder for me because every time I find one it disappears into thin air. :/

I've caught both for 11 players. I try to walk towards it so I'm standing in front of me. The one time I tried sideways it took me out.
Walk slow like you do when you try to get the golden stag on the island. I stop when it hisses and wait for it to lay back down. Than I move forward and nail it. If it tries to go for the river move back. Sometime you can stop it from jumping into the river or over a cliff. One time one was stuck on the cliff and it didn't drop. Nailed it.

Going about your daily routine seems to help. I've caught them while fishing. One walked pass me and I got it.
Another walked behind the villager that I was speaking to. It waited for the conversation to end so I could catch it.
Fireworks night is a night when I caught a lot of them. Having some opened spots so you can see them helps. They like to run to the red flowers to hide. The mayor ran over one while running to the train station. It freaked out and disappeared.

They appear more often than you think. Something that will really help you find them is to wear head phones and crank up the sound. You'll be able to hear them even when you can't see them. I hunted for scorpions for weeks with no luck until I tried this. It worked on the first try.

And I agree with the others; don't equip your net until you see them.
