How do you all feel about playing with strangers?
I don't mean on the island (which I'm totally cool with!) but people you've never spoken with and have no reputation and want to come to your town?

I do want to make new friends, but it's scary letting people in. I have only done that once and they stole some pink tulips of mine so now I'm always anxious about letting people in that I've never spoken to/have no wi-fi rating or anything.

Usually on Instagram, whenever I post pictures with either my hybrids or one of my popular villagers, a random person (whom I don't follow/doesn't follow me/never spoken to me before) always come out to ask to come to my town. They don't even ask to "play" just to come over for some reason...

Am I just being over paranoid or ???
How do you all deal with playing with strangers, etc.?

You're not paranoid. You have every right to be scared for your town if you're inviting a stranger. You don't know what they'll do. So far I've had bad experiences with male players. I've never had a problem with female players, so when it comes to inviting, I'm a little bias on what sex is allowed to visit. Of course there have been a couple nice guys who weren't acting suspicious.

I'm pretty paranoid myself, but so far my interactions with users here have belayed a bit of that feeling. I still don't have any desire to invite anyone in for anything other than a quick trade or villager pick-up. That I think I'll keep for my RL friends and family, so if they ruin my town, I know whose face to punch. xD

No, it's better to be safe than sorry. The only people I let into my town are my close friend that I know in-person, and people on here I need to trade with.

That's pretty suspicious, tbh! I'd say you're right for being protective. I do love the forums, though, everybody is so patient and kind and I haven't seen a single person without a 100% positive wifi rating c:

Remember though, if anything bad like that happens again you can always just follow them around of if they ruin anything just flip the wifi switch off. That resets it I think.

Yes, flipping the Wi-Fi off during the middle of the session treats it like an error. Nothing is saved, all the damage is undone.

Agree with everyone above. It's totally normal that you feel that way. I have not experience this personally but I did saw my friend posted about how his town was ruined, hybrids stolen from some so called stranger-friend he trust and let them enter~ Sometimes you just don't know who is really good or who have ill intention inside, so becareful is much better, at the end is your own loss if anything happen.

You're not being paranoid. I'm the same way with letting people into my town. The only time I let people I don't know visit my town is if they need to pick up a villager or drop something off. Otherwise I just have the people I know in real life visit like my friends and family. But it's totally okay to be protective of your town. But there is a dream address so if you want people/people want to visit you can just have them enter your dream town and whatever they do it won't affect your real town. :)

I never invite strangers unless it's for trades in which I usually keep a close eye on them.

I get to know the people I invite to my town first to "play". Be it from tumblr, school or tbt.

I've only had TBT people over, usually for signatures. I tend to just go sit on a bench and let them do their own thing unless they want me to come around with them and help find villagers. So far only one person has done anything nefarious (stole a flower :( ). I didn't leave a bad rating because I didn't notice the missing stuff until after I'd made the good rating (can you even change them after the fact?), but it was only one orange tulip anyway so I really didn't care too much. I've heard the situation's very different elsewhere so I wouldn't be so open to people from Gamefaqs or whatever, but TBT locals have never been a problem for me and I've had over a hundred of them over in total :)

Adding one more: Even I let people run around freely to get signature in my town, I also did run around myself helping them look for villagers while checking if there's missing flowers and because I know where I have them and if one is missing is pretty obvious(unless they steal from beach which is impossible too).

I only let people in my town if we're trading or they're getting a villager. Occasionally I'll let people in for signatures as well, but I try to keep an eye on them if there's anything around that they could take. The closest thing I've ever done to playing with a stranger was add someone I met on the island. We played together a few times and nothing went wrong, but it's not something I'd do very often. I'm bad at talking to people I don't know well, so it wouldn't be much fun playing with strangers anyway.

My gates are open all day. I usually keep my 3DS on to charge and It's open. Usually when I'm sleeping, too. WHenever I make trades I delete them after, so I only have friends that I know on there if they want to come in.

I'm the same; I always have my finger on the Wi-Fi switch when someone comes to my town who I've never talked to.

Before I found this forum, I had added some people from a FB group and had some bad experiences, one girl thought that just because I let her in once to get the fruits she could come harvest all my trees whenever my gates opened and another guy would come in and want to go on tours right hen, even if I was busy doing a trade or something, he would be rude and sulky if we didn't drop everything to go. I was about to give up on all social aspects of the game when I found TBT and so far I have only had good experiences here :)

I'm waaaaay too shy and awkward so I always avoid wifi'ing with others...
But if I see something good in the stranger and if we have common interests, I would be willing to wifi if I wasn't to scared to ask.

//sticks to trading instead.

Somehow I don't feel as paranoid when I let people in from TBT... ACC and other forums, yeah I stalk them everywhere they go. Maybe I should be more cautious?

I was tempted to let some folks who follow my FB page come over to catalog some stuff, but I don't really KNOW them. I guess if I ask them to stay in the train station area, it's less dangerous and do it maybe 2 people at a time or something? :P

I haven't have any trouble yet, all of my trades and things have been on TBT so i haven't had a bad experience yet
