^ Same with me. This is the forum for all my Animal Crossing needs and I never had something bad happen when someone was over. Everyone was very friendly and nice and I don't mind sharing my fruit or flowers if the people ask first. I have never been scammed either and I hope it stays that way. *fingers crossed*
I only really do trades, but I hang out sometimes (very rarely) and it's usually ME looking around THEIR town because I found it pretty.
I don't do Club Tortimer because it's creepy and boring imo.
If you come in and I have no idea who you are, I'll ask, and if I don't get an answer it's byebye for you. I'm paranoid and antisocial TBTers are very nice, but again I only do trading, so yeah. I totally allow my friends to just **** about, but a stranger will be hawked.
I don't mind if people come over for trades and such, but I am paranoid about letting people come over to play. Which is why I don't ask. xD The only person I ever let do that was my cousin, and my town wasn't even developed at the time so it didn't really matter. I think I would only let people over if I really knew who they were.
I've always been very paranoid, especially since I started playing NL and I was on gamefaqs for all my talking and trading. That place was rampant with scammers and thieves. But since I've been on TBT, I trust people here far more than I do on gamefaqs. Mostly because we have the wifi ratings here, so based on the rating and percentage, it's easier to trust users here. I did have an issue with a newbie on TBT, mostly because they didn't know the etiquette for playing online.
Overall, it's fine for people to be cautious/paranoid. I think everyone else is too cause we all worked hard on our towns.
the only problem I ever had was when I had been visited this girl's town about twice to give her my spare non-hybrid flowers, I told her I had more so she asked to come to my town this time to pick them up, but when she was here she kept getting 'lost' while trying to get to the gate... (i had paths too, and my town isnt very complicated xD) then I caught up to her and saw her take one pink carnation, I was kind of confused and I PM'ed her about it later but she told me she didn't take it... owo
well, maybe I lagged or something but I dont know how lagging can make you see someone take a flower ;A;
i had been worried to use the wireless switch over one little flower, meh... I probably should have done it just to be safe, in case she took anything else~ >u<
but I'm super paranoid about having others in my town, I usually supervise them to make sure nothing fishy happens.
I let my friends go wherever they want though, lol :3
I have no problems with it, random people came in my town when i was Away in WW all the time no damage at all, and now since it seems common apparently and I'm not as busy as back then i just flip the wi-fi switch then poof. They're done
I've heard stories about people being stolen multiple things... But than again it's never happened to me. The times I have traded with people was always pleasant. I'm very cautious about what's going on, and sometimes I was so scared that overtime the screen showed that somebody came, I was beating super fast. And I don't really invite people to just "play"... Except if it were my sister, who than again wouldn't be over 10 meters away from me.
I think it's good to have some precaution while playing, I mean sometimes those hybrids are hard worked for, and if someone takes them... Maybe for me it isn't just the fact it was a golden rose or pink carnation, it was the fact that you had trust in that person at the start and they sort of broke it.
Thankfully most people and Bell Tree are super kind and I am very glad to be part of the forums.
I've been lucky enough to never have had anything stolen, but I know it does happen. I have before visited someone's town and they followed me as I looked around, but I can't blame them at all. Inviting people over makes me nervous for a lot of reasons.
I usually have people from TBT over for trades and my one close friend to visit my town, but I trust her enough to wander around and not take anything. Since trades take place near the train station, I don't really have to worry much.
But the few times I have had new people over, I watched them like a hawk.
Trust issues man.
I haven't really had any bad experiences, the community here is beyond awesome so I let most do their own thing. I usually will follow people with no rating now just to be sure as I had a lot of hybrids stolen before but I really didn't care too much, was annoyed, I mean it's just a game, it's not hard to do it yourself so why stoop to stealing from someone else.
I concur with what most of the previous posters have said. I've had things stolen from my town by someone here, and I was never able to find out who as I had many people coming in and out of my town that day. So no, you're not being paranoid. While initiating trades/visits is a good way to make new friends here and to get to know the community, it's always a good rule of thumb to look at a user's Wi-Fi rating prior to allowing them into your town. Most of the users here are trustworthy and pleasant and understand basic etiquette while visiting, but it never hurts to be overly cautious, especially if you have valuables lying around and have spent a good deal of time on landscaping your town.
I like to play with strangers *raises eyebrows repatedly
I've never let someone in my town who did anything bad, except this guy who accidentally trampled a blue rose. He replaced it though.
It can be scary. I've only had people over a few times, mostly to get villagers. If they're going to be in and out, I walk with them to make sure flowers don't get trampled. I haven't had a problem yet, though. My town's still a WIP, so I'm hoping to have people over more once I work it all out. I've added a ton of people since joining TBT and I'd like to make some close friends who play AC and love it as much as I do c:
I actually don't like playing with strangers period, even if I trust them? I get so self-conscious and can't really enjoy it :")
Stealing my stuff is another reason though I guess.
I never actually play with anyone else for extended periods / not for trading unless its a close friend.
I get a bit paranoid when playing with strangers sometimes. I had times when people I don't know very well and they steal my bells and crossbreed flowers. It happened to me about a week ago. I will still add strangers though since I do like to meet new people, but I usually don't keep them on my friend roster for very long if they steal from me.
I only let my trusted friends in and people if it's for a trade on TBT.
Often, I'd go to Club Tortimer and people start asking me for my FC :/
I did that once and it was a Japanese person...he came to my town unexpectedly when I was doing a trade and he dashed out to pick up black tulips. I ended session immediately ( I could've flipped the switch off, but then again I didn't want to corrupt the trade). One black tulip was gone, though :\
And then this other time, the person I traded with left my town and I was about to close my gates when someone completely random (not the same person) arrived. Immediately quit
