Planting Bushes: Question

So I bought a few bushes from the island but I'm not sure whether they can be planted right next to my house or not.

Will they grow or do they need at least 1 space from my house to grow?

They can only grow next to each other, nothing else. So no, they can't be touching anything unless its another bush.

Or a tree/tree stump, bamboo, and flowers.
