You can place them on tables and shop stands.

Other than that, I toss them in a garbage bin. I only keep those rare ones like wreaths and crowns.

I made a warehouse in my basement and put them on long tables there.

You can place 4 of them at a time on a big table and use the cleaning service. The diys and the
table will be sent to the recycling bin in Resident Services. Just get your table out of the bin and
do it again. I think the recycling bin has a limit of 60, so that should take care of most of them.
A bit of advice, don't use the cleaning service on areas of your island where lots of things are placed
or dropped on the ground. Make sure the area around the table is empty.

Just throw the common ones away and keep the rares. You can't store stuff. You can try to get them pushed into the recycling bin, but that's more work than it's worth. The first month I started I just dumped them all in my rooms, but at one point I just got irritated and did a mass purge. Now I have only a few rare ones I never bothered to trade and will probably end up trashing anyway.

The whole visiting screen is unnessarily long. So that's another reason I haven't really bothered. I don't remember NL's ever being that long.

You can put them in the recycling box!!!! It holds up to 80 items, and to get them in there you need to enter construction mode and ask for "clean up."

I just always left them on the floor in my house. I am not sure tho if that effected the 5 star score tho haha

That's why I never hold onto them. It's a bit more difficult if you have a shop on here but if you don't, I'd just sell them to Timmy/Tommy.

I have them only on my beach section. Still a mess, but at least they have a designated spot.

I’ve gotten all the HHA trophies so I just throw the rare ones in a room to keep to either give away or sell later. I don’t store them outside my house since I don’t want my town rating to fall ):

I think @SleepyMimeko has the best solution! I would try that but I also wouldn’t keep too many DIYs unless you’re planning on opening a DIY shop or something

I just throw away my spare DIYs now.

I had a bunch of wreaths, crowns, gold, and ironwood DIYs that I'd kept to trade, but I decided to do a giveaway on here instead.

After three nights and very few takers, I realised demand isn't there so I binned the rest.

My advice is to toss probably 80% - 90% of them. Keep extra seasonal DIYs and the wreaths / crowns. I use my alternate characters upgraded house as DIY storage now, which works quite well.
