They're my favourite breed of dog.

We actually rescued one a few years back, he is a huge baby. His name is Axl and he's an absolute doll. We also had the most gorgeous pit I've ever seen staying with us for a few months named Henry. He was also the fattest one I've ever seen, but he was overfed like mad and we managed to get the weight off him while he stayed with us. I would've adopted him if I had the room (and if my other dog wasn't dog aggressive - not Axl, my little beagle mix), he was hilarious. Sweetest temperament. He was so happy all the time, dancing around shaking his ass at you 24/7. He was one of those pits you see that are very short and squat, black and white and he had ice blue eyes. Just stunning. Mostly he was just such a funny dog, I sobbed when he left. We found him a good home, but it's still so hard.

Anyways, I used to work at a boarding kennel where the owners were also the local animal control. They often brought rescue animals to the facility before they were rehomed or their owners found. So I've dealt with a lot of pitbulls. Some are sweethearts and some are vicious, but I can tell you the crazy ones come from some sick situations and owners, so it has little to do with the breed. We had some who were absolutely fine with being handled by people (and actually quite affectionate), but would kill another dog on sight. Pretty obvious why.

The problems these dogs can have are like any breed - a result of the owner. Unfortunately they instill more fear in people because they're built like tanks. I hate to see the bans, we have Dobermans as well and there are just some places you cannot go to if you have these breeds (without giving them up).

The only serious dog bite I've ever gotten working with dogs was from a Westie. So I wouldn't fear any breed in particular, they're all dogs and training is necessary.

I love Pit Bulls, they're so adorable. I've never been bitten or hurt by one. I have had to get stitches because of a Chihuahua though, so it's all in how the dog's temperament is and if it's been treated nicely.

Pit bulls are wonderful friendly creatures with the right upbringing. Just like any other animal ♡

She's the best behaved dog you've ever had, yet she can't be around when your cousins are there incase she attacks them? Riiiiight.
We want her to attack intruders so its not really a bad thing and also most dogs don't like little kids they shout and run around to much so you can't really blame the dog, little dogs do the same thing except pitbulls are more inclined to be attack dogs so yeah. If a little kid lived with us it'd be fine. She doesn't see them very much either its only when we have to bring her when we go to my grandparents. I don't think dogs know little kids are younger they just think they are smaller. A dog shouldn't like someone it never sees that kicked one of its owners in the face. It was ok with them before that, wouldn't leave it alone with them obviously but it didn't try to bite before.

there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

i have a pit bull and a chihuahua living under the same roof, and guess what they're both alive.

I adore Pit Bulls:D My sister and her family have two; they are her husbands technically, but they share them now xD, the first time I met the mom of the puppy she was absolutely darling and affectionate<3 And they are both such sweet and rambunctious dogs:) I just adore all dogs though haha<3

I don't plan on ever owning a pit bull, but the only pit bull I've met was a huge sweetie full of kisses. <3
They might be a bit stronger than other dogs, but that doesn't mean you can't train them.

We had a dog like that, one of our Alaskan Malamutes.
Big, loveable ball of fluff to the family members. He went everywhere with me when I was little; he used to watch Teletubbies with me, lolol.

But if anybody unfamiliar came over, both of our dogs had to go outside. Very territorial, and very protective of us. And big, very big. This dog could stand on his hind legs and look my father in the eyes.. at 10 months old. My dad is 6'2.
Even when my sisters moved out, we had to put them outside when THEY came over. They weren't around often enough to still be considered 'family' - they 'left the pack.' :p

They actually had to spend a lot of time outside for the first few years, but we had a huge yard and a wrap-around fence that went from our solarium to our basement, both of which we kept open for them. They had a comfortable space.

So no, I do agree - unfamiliar people can raise red flags for any protective family dog. Doesn't mean they're not well-trained, just means you have to take some extra precautions with some dogs. I mean, depending on the kind of neighborhood you live in, you might prefer a dog you have to 'lock up' for a little bit when certain friends/family come over to a dog that won't so much as bark at the guy breaking into your house in the middle of the night. :P

Well I don't agree with people training their dogs to attack intruders, and if my dog was bad with children AT ALL then I'd get rid of it because I don't want that risk. Plenty of dogs are great with kids and don't get bothered by them.

In grade 5 we had to write and present a speech about something that was happening in the world and why we did or didnt agree on it. Ilive in Canada and around that time PitBulls were being Banned from being bred or brought into the country.

I disagreed with the Ban etcetc. And won an award after presenting it to the entire school.

I don't have anything against any breed of dog. I'm nervous around dogs in general, but I don't hate on specific breeds. If you own a dog, you need to take the responsibility to train that dog and teach it acceptable behavior.

It can be beneficial in ways. Dogs obviously have better senses than we do and if a genuine intruder was to enter your house at night, it could be that the dog takes them down before they have a chance to steal your stuff, kill you, rape you etc.etc. Hell, they could simply just stand there looking aggressive so the 'intruder' goes away.
Any family or friends would know better than to enter the house uninvited in this case, so the only people in danger would be intruders...and who really cares about their well being?

If somebody broke into my house, my dog would likely run around in a circle and lovingly lick their face. Whilst I love her...It would be nice to know that she's got my back when I'm asleep rather than her making friends with potential criminals...

I'd just rather not have a dog that's trained to be hostile to strangers. I'd like to be able to have new friends round without being worried about my dog attacking them. My neighbours have some crazy aggressive protective dog that growls and slams itself against the fence whenever I walk by, it's just horrible. And while I wouldn't want people breaking into my house, I don't exactly want them to be violently killed/injured by an animal...
What happened to good old burglar alarms? That usually does the trick

I don't like pitbulls. Not because of any bad history with them, just simply because I don't prefer how they look. I've only ever owned toy dogs, so they're just my preference. I'm sure they're lovely when trained well.

Something tells me you've never experienced a break-in. :p
