Physical safer than Download?

I've been seeing a lot of stories about people who have downloaded the game from the eShop having major issues with corrupted Save Data, and having to restart the game over and over. This is usually caused by SD cards and stuff, from what I've gathered.

Is buying a physical copy of the game going to keep your data safer than a digital download? Because I don't care about convenience as long as my town is safe. :)

My brother bought his copy digital and he hasn't had a problem. I bought a physical copy and while having it closed I accidentally popped the game out and had to restart. I haven't heard too many issues about digital.

I say go physical to be safe.

Alright! I was leaning towards that, and I know loads of people are having no problems with the digital copy, but I just want to make certain nothing happens to my town. I've been playing Wild World for over 3 years- 3 1/2 I think. If I ever lost my town... I'm really not sure what I would do. Probably cry a lot.
Heh. Thanks!

I don't have any issues with digital, I actually like it a lot! I think I'm even going to get PKMN X/Y as a digital download as well. You just got to be careful.

I went with the physical copy as if I somehow knew about possible glitches before they started happening (don't ask how). I just don't trust digital copies of anything in general really... At least when it comes to important things like these.
So far I haven't had a problem with my physical copy. I'd die if I had to start over (which I feared with the digital copy.) Plus with digital versions, if the 3DS dies I've heard recently there's no way to recover the lost data. Whereas with the cartridge in the same situation, the save data is safe cause it's not on the system.
Can't say for sure if that's true or not with the digital version save file, but it's part of the earlier fear.

I pre-ordered a physical copy because even though things are more digital, I'd still rather have a physical copy to display :) But for my second copy I ordered it through the eShop since there are none in stores. No problems so far though.

A few points:

1. I didn't expect issues on BOTH fronts but you're right, I have read that the digital version has some rare errors/problems for a few owners.

2. Probably unlikely but if you're ever bored of New Leaf, you can always sell the physical game.

Finally, I am not entirely sure- if someone loses their 3DS, are the digital titles not transferable to a new 3DS? If so, that's a huge downer for digital buyers.

Good luck, Night!

I think the digital games having so many issues being tranferred to other 3DS'es may just have to be looked into deeper by Nintendo, but they'll probably come out with an update that fixes that problem. If not, oh well, this is why I keep my 3DS XL in a case and near my person at all times! I have been stung by companies before not allowing me to re-download games to new systems after losing them *COUGH*microsoft*COUGHHACKCOUGH* ...so I know that pain, is all I'm saying!

Physical has a higher chance of keeping your save file safer but it isn't guaranteed. It's confirmed that both the digital and physical copies of the game have almost - if not all the same issues. The only reason why the physical has any advantage at all is that digital relies on the SD card.

If Nintendo decides to put Nintendo Network IDs into better use and actually have the games synced to your account,
Physical and digital will be equal fun! ^.^
But it hasn't happened yet ;.;

I never knew the 3ds could die. But mine is only 4 months old. I haven't had a problem with my digital copy at all so far works perfectly. I'm planning on buying the physical copy though just to have a backup town.

I didn't realize it wasn't transferable until after I bought the digital copy. I got it because I tend to lose game carts and I didn't want to take a chance on losing it. Though now I just hope my ds never ever breaks. :(

My problem with phsyical is they are easier to lose, with digital they are always with you.

I vote gamecard over digital, I have both for this game, and I like that I can play my gamecard in any 3DS, plus if my system dies and I lose my account I still have my gamecard games and their game saves are within the cards.

Nintendo has already burned me once with digital downloads on the wii, so I tend not to trust digital anymore.

This is only true as long as that particular game system stays functional. IF the system crashes or dies everything on it goes with it, even if you buy a new system. OR when the next generation system comes out if its backwards compatible (like 3DS was for DS) downloaded games wont transfer.

I have hundreds of old games and systems and from time to time I have to replacement systems as they wear out much easier, but thankfully the game cartridges work no matter if its the original system or a replacement. However all the digital downloaded game in my original Wii were lost when the Wii died. the game discs I bought for the wii all work on the replacement Wii, but all the classic games I bought were lost, all at once. simply because the system died.

My friend recently lost her game just for removing the SD card, and she had to start over on her town and re-download the game. I don't trust digital copies..

Was it still lost after she put the SD card back? because I remove my SD card all the time to upload pictures to my computer but I haven't had any problems with my digital copy version of my ac game because of it.

It was still on her E-shop account, so luckily she could download it again. The game itself got deleted off the SD card for no reason

Well, I have a physical copy and the only problem I've had is I put it in my purse once and the game card accidentally popped out. But it's not that big of a problem.

Well this is freaking me out! I got my DS the other day with the digital copy and it was fine. I took out the SD card to upload some pictures and forgot to put it back in. When it didn't pop up I panicked, but I realised it's on the SD card. So if my DS broke could I put the SD card in another DS and still have my data?
