phone confiscation

there really is no reason for a phone in school. even if you miss the bus, use a teacher's phone or one in the office to call your parents. i didn't have a cell phone until i was 16, and i had to leave it in the car at all times (crappy pre paid a decade ago). we survived!
plus it really makes me mad to see a 12 year old kid with a way better phone than me
the only reason i can see for giving a kid a cell phone is to have a gps tracker on it to know where they are.

i'm just kidding about really getting mad. i live in a resort town and i used to see rich 10 year old kids with iphones, it just seemed a bit excessive. what does a young kid need with a fancy phone? kids that young are just gonna break it or lose it. it just seems like an awful amount of money to invest in electronic equipment that, chances are, will be dropped and broken in a month.

Cell phones give off the same radio waves as microwaves, holding it up to your ear causes cancer if you use it everyday.

Your statement is false, it has been proven microwaves don't cause cancer.

Texting is fine, talking causes cancer.

This is false also because even if phones did give off radiation then they would still give cancer through contact.

true emergencies like that are thankfully very rare. teachers and professors, i'm sure, always have their phones with them.
i don't agree with not needing to have a cell phone at all, though. It's a great convenience that helps people everyday.
it's just not necessary to have a phone turned on during school hours. if you had a family emergency your parents would have to call the school anyway to let them know, so there's really no advantage to having it in class. except for talking to friends. and i don't think that's allowed
