Phases of the moon

I don't know if previous Animal Crossing games did this, but it seems to me that in New Leaf, the game knows what phase the 'real' moon is in, and displays the in-game moon the same way.

I don't think it does every single phase, maybe just the quarters and new moon though.

I guess the program uses the current date and goes from there.

Wild World did the same thing. I hardly ever leave the house at night, so it's nice to see that there is a full moon, even if I only see it in the game.
