Pet peeve thread

I'm totally about being different. I probably should've worded it differently and included the full post that I put on FB. It just gets irritated. You have a whole sea of girls claiming not to be like other girls and it's just like, "What's wrong with these *other* girls? Nothing. What's wrong with you? Nothing. You like different stuff, cool! You don't have bring other people down just because they don't like what you like. Like, what's the point? " There's just this irritating girl on FB who's just always like, "I'm not like other girls because I actually know about comic books. I'm not a fake nerd girl like all these other girls pretending like they do on here with their shirts. I bet they don't even know anything about the heroes." Did you ask them? How do you know? Lol, like I know a bunch, but I'm not making a point to publicly archive it to prove to people that I'm just as "into" stuff as them. I get that girls kind of have to show off their knowledge of stuff to be taken seriously in fandoms though so maybe that's it? I don't know how to explain. Like, awesome! You're into totally different stuff. Good! I totally don't fit half the "supposed" girl mold anyways so I know what it's like. But what makes you think they don't know just as much you and just don't flaunt it? I think it's awesome when girls are girly, when girls aren't girly. I'm a little of both. Whatevs. I think it's cool that everyone is into different stuff. But why do people have to use that as a bad thing...? You're not better? You're just into one thing, while they're into another. I don't know how to word it. It's just always kind of bothered me because I've never seen someone say "I'm not like the *other* girls" without tacking on some insult to girls that are just different in their own rights. Maybe that's just me. I don't know.

Really wish I could word this better. I don't want people thinking I'm like, being rude or saying everyone needs to be the same and fit the gender roles that society has given us, because that's bull in and of itself, but that's for another day.

I probably shouldn't have commented, lol. Oh well.

I know what you're getting at. A girl saying that 'she's not like the other girl's' reinforces gender stereotypes on both parties, implying that there's something wrong with being feminine (and that you're conforming to societal ideals if you do - but that gets complicated when you think about personal choice), and also that liking 'boy things' and 'girl things' are mutually exclusive e.g. your examples of comic books.

You don't have to define yourself by what you aren't and putting others down.

Yes! This! Thank you. I was like, "I know what I'm trying to say! I'mma ramble and hope someone understands what I mean..."

Yes, that's ok! :) I find it really hard to articulate my thoughts sometimes.

It used to annoy me as well, but I think there needs to be an understanding of why there are girls who feel the need to define themselves as 'not being like the other girls'; it's the media and society who define what a 'normal girl' is and many girls don't fit that stereotypical image. Hence some feel the need to prove themselves to others in such terms (like you said in male-dominated fandom space).

Attention. They don't get any from the girly girl group. If anything they're made fun of and marked as a "weirdo". So then these very same girls are left feeling different, alone and unwanted by everyone. Then they go into the "male-dominated space" and find out that they're not just wanted there, but that guys see them as goddesses that walk the earth. Put 2+2 together and there you go. People just want to feel special and wanted.

It's been a long time since I've been in such environments, but yes, that's what I was saying. It's a matter of self-worth and how girls are affected by what society is pushing on to them.

Girls who take 5 hours putting slap on there faces and then be like GOSH, I havent got enough make up on, why did you rush me!

oh boy here we go

- When people walk slowly in front of me when I'm in the city, it frustrates me so much and I make a point of overtaking them
- People who obsess over correcting other people's grammar (yes, outside of the internet I'm pretty fussy about grammar, but online I really couldn't care less)
- People from other countries who think they know more about your own country's history than you do
- Loud mouth breathing
- When people but a full stop at the end of a question instead of a question mark (I can't actually explain why this one annoys me so much, it just does)
- The sound of a clicking pen
- When someone is drinking and I can hear it going down their throat ohufslfjlasdjpaldnalkghlasfja
- Picky eaters (fair enough if you're allergic or don't eat certain foods because of lifestyle/religious reasons, but it just annoys me otherwise)
- Really frugal people
- When people don't pick up their dog's s***; I mean really, just be a decent person
- People who go out of their way to be 'edgy', even if it's at the expense of other people's feelings
- People who take a really long time to reply to texts/snapchats/etc.
- Messy kitchens (my bedroom is nearly always messy but I am so obsessed with keeping my kitchen clean)
- People who self-diagnose themselves with OCD and fail to realise the actual weight of the disorder they are pretending to have just because they don't like mismatched things
- People who take photographs in museums/art galleries when there are signs that explicitly ask patrons not to take photographs
- People who ask questions during movies
- People who talk in the cinema
- People who slurp their drinks in the cinema
- People who check their phones in the cinema
- People who put books back in the wrong place in bookstores
- People who try like 10 things on in a clothes store, decide they want none of it, and hand it to the changing room assistant instead of putting it back themselves (this one is a personal pet peeve because I used to work in Topshop and it was the most irritating thing ever; it's just pure laziness most of the time)
- Litterbugs

People who post on the internet to diagnose something they might have or ask for a advice on a website that doesn't specialize in that certain situation. For example, don't ask people if you have something like cancer of the kidney or social anxiety (for example) on yahoo answers or reddit, go to a doctor or something.

- Interrupting while doing something
- Annoying people
- People who are comforting me, really annoying
- People just go near to see what happen and "fake" comfort them.

- - - Post Merge - - -

This is me during school and we're going to watch a movie. I'm always like "wtf why are people screaming, they're f*****g 16 years old it's just the dark and it's day time, grow up"

Finally, ily

people who chew really loudly and people who breathe really heavily while eating... EEYUGGH...

I agree with the "gamer gurls" one. The toughest men suddenly turn to complete mush when a girl enters the chat. I had taken advantage of that on a Minecraft server and just ended up getting into a whole load of crap I shouldn't have.
Also, with the people misusing words. Words are sacred to me and it annoys me SO VERY much when someone thinks they're all high and mighty by using 'uppity' words like "preposterous" or "biased". It also annoys me when people misuse literally. It happens a lot here in Britain, especially on YouTube, and most of them pronounce it "litchulli".
One Year 7 girl was hanging around with a bunch of her friends in front of me, and she misused antidisestablishmentarianism (honestly, there isn't many conversations where that would fit in anyway) in place of antithesis and I swear to God I would've whipped around and knocked her to the floor if there wasn't a teacher behind me.

1. The amount of people who ask to get their villagers held and have 100 requirements, keep them original, do this, do that. Don't be stupid and get them into boxes in the first place. People don't enjoy holding villagers for people for a long ass time. People just time travel and are stupid about it every time.

2. Extreme Bob fans.

3. Loud people.

People who act weired when girls enter the room, Me and my friend were having a hardcore game of naughts and crosses, and then this girl walked in and he started putting hearts instead of just O..

oh lord.
yikes, I did that. Big mistake.

I did that once too lol. I realized after how dumb it was because it's always better to talk to professionals. (even if people on that sight "claim" they're professionals, you don't know. I sort of regret doing that lol)

+ "pastel goths" or any other fashion trend that looks like it was deliberately lifted from someone's tumblr. seriously you guys. seriously.

+ people who have pets but don't control them. like your dog is jumping in my face at least say something.

+ people who are prone to complain about nothing.
