I've been playing for a year with just my mayor, but I've been thinking about maybe making another character.

Even though I'm female in real life, I like to play as male characters, so I made a boy mayor. I'd like my second character to be a girl.

One main reason for wanting to make a new character is that I want to use some of the furniture sets I have in storage.

Drawbacks are that you have to start all over with unlocking things, like Sable. And that you have to play both characters to avoid messy hair.

How do you guys feel about having multiple characters? Is it fun or annoying?

I don't really see any downsides unless you really need the space their houses are taking up.

They let you have more spaces for paths, and personally more than my town I love interior design so I like being able to use furniture in ways I can't in my mayors house. Also like you said, more furniture storage. It's also nice using them to make a kinda story when ppl visit your dream town if you're into that kinda stuff

I only have my mayor currently and I find it's enough to keep me occupied. I did have to be really selective when deciding what to have on display in my house though. I think I've got it figured out now and I'm quite satisfied with just one character, the only drawback for me is having so few pattern slots since I use paths quite liberally in my town.

I do find the messy hair thing a bit annoying, but I find myself playing my side characters more often just so I can hoard meow coupons on them (for some reason my mayor gets really hard initiatives u_u), so I don't have bed hair as often anymore. My first town only had a mayor but my new game has all four residents! Since the update I've been trying to collect interesting furniture to make themed houses and rooms... so it's been really fun!

I have two towns and 7 characters. I like having other characters for lots of reasons:
1) more mew coupons (thank you, update) (also, that means no more messy hair since I play with them more often)
2) more rooms to decorate. so many pretty items in this game, especially with the update, it's an opportunity to use more
3) this has been mentioned, but more QR space for paths and interior design. I personally only use one tile of QR for paths, but my sister uses three characters to have all her paths and she can have more options.
4) different eyes/faces than your mayor. also, opportunities to play around with clothes and haircuts/colors.
Unlocking stuff is boring, but it's worth it (at least, to me it is!)

i love it for the storage space along with the ability to have lots of different QR patterns around town.
without my extra villagers i'd never be able to have cute steeping stones and other patterns because my mayor's QR inventory is full of my paths.

I just use mine for patterns and its annoying decorating their house so i left it as a tent! I never play her and her hair gets all messy too D:

It's annoying because I don't want to decorate their house and everything but I have to have space for my paths and stuff

I only have my mayor now, has been like that a while now as I wanted to line all my villager houses up and needed the spaces. Also found I never played as any of them as I like playing as myself in game. They're great for holding patterns, storage and displaying items. But I might stick with just my mayor now actually, pretty happy with how the house is and I have no interest in other path designs right now

Both my side characters wear hats so I had no idea you could get messy hair xD I have one character for a special house I made in memoriam and I have the other character for a Hotel/Restaurant. They also house my paths and I use them for storage. Personally, I don't really see a downside to having them.

I made a secondary character mainly for paths, but with the update I use it to hoard meow coupons or whatever they are called :) It's worth it if their house won't interfere with your town layout too much!

I made a second character long ago simply because my town felt so empty with only one character! The placement of the house fits in so well with my town as well. Unfortunately I kind of abandoned her...

With the new update, I've been playing as her more to get extra MEOW coupons. I also like the extra storage space but I'm usually too lazy to move items from one character to another! :p

I created a second and third character for paths. I like having variations and sometimes, one type of pattern consumes a lot of space. I thought about making a fourth but saved for when I get all my favorite villagers and no longer going to plot reset. Also, it's nice to have another means to get meow coupons!

I have two boys and two girls with no downside
for the unlocking parts this isn't a problem my mayor would make the work for the others and they will get the items they needs (customizations, bells, furniture and all)
things like badges are just a mayor priorities
their sole work it's unlocking qr machine and with the new update gain mew coupons
