Perfect fruit question

So, I've been playing since the day the game launched but, have never tried to plant perfect fruit from other towns. If it's not you native perfect fruit will it still grow a perfect tree?

No it won't, only your native fruit can grow perfect fruit trees! If you try to grow one that is not native, it will just be a normal fruit tree.

That reminds me of when my friend gave me a bunch of perfect apples in my old town where the native fruit was cherries, and stupid me decided to plant them thinking they'd grow into perfect. Little did I know they gave them to me so they could be sold for a bunch of money and just planted them all...
