This may be kind of hypocritical since I have complained about this game before, but sometimes I think people nitpick this game way too much over stuff that doesn’t matter.

This isn’t directed at anyone on this forum either. I saw a youtube video about about something complaining that there wasn’t any gems in the rocks like NL. Idk, like some of the stuff like missing club LOL or saying that it’s too hard to get a 5-star island or that items are too expensive seem really nitpicky in my opinion. The game would be way too easy if everything was super cheap or quick…

And yes, I know that there are lots of things like the lack of furniture, bad QoL, no mini games, flowers being annoying, boring villagers, etc, etc. But I think there’s also a lot of negativity too (and I’ve definitely over-complained too).

It’s kinda weird too that people will go to ACNH discord servers and say that the game sucks and that NL is better. Like, why hang around ACNH communities if you hate the game?

I know this is kind of a weird thing to make a long post about, but I think people should probably make peace with the fact that ACNH isn’t ACNL 2.0. I think you can still criticize the game and want more content without expecting every single thing to return or to have super niche updates. Idk, thoughts?

I haven’t seen any comments outside of TBT forums, so, I don’t know how negative they are elsewhere. I think for the most part, most people here have been very constructive in their criticism and made very good discussions that weren’t overly negative. I have been a bit bothered by some negativity I’ve seen in threads that were focused on someone’s positive experience with a villager or just with the game in general.

I have my own frustration with the game but I’m still enjoying the game. If I ever find myself wanting to complain in every thread about how much the game sucks, then maybe it’s time for me to quit or to take a break (from the forum as well). I’m nowhere near that point though, thankfully. I’m not afraid to share my opinion in threads about what things need to be improved or similar topics, but I try my best not to overdo since not everyone wants to hear complaints and negativity all the time.

I would like to think of them as the vocal minority but I don't know if that's true. I have issues with the game but I keep them to myself or to the dms with my friends. If I really want to shout it to the void and maybe be heard, I'll post in the Rant thread that's floating around here.

I try not to bring my negative experiences in here but I'm not perfect. I don't think expressing every negative thought I have about NH is healthy and I just take a step back from the forums, discord, and the game and do something else. I love NH but it's not my life. I have other hobbies I can engage in until I feel like picking up my switch again.

I haven't seen much continued and outright negativity on this site in particular except for a few instances of it usually by the same person but I know what you mean, as there have been a few communities outside of TBT I have tried to participate in where it's too much of a focus. I was in a Facebook group for ACNH until yesterday, I left because it was getting too annoying. They'd post some long and rather dramatic rant about Isabel's morning announcements or whatnot. Like dude it's a game lol. What even is she supposed to say.

I kind of just dropped out of all of the ACNH Discord servers and outside groups as I find plenty of my ACNH fill from here and the game itself. Critiquing the game isn't a bad thing at all, but when they decide to nitpick little things like Isabel or the fact that the difference between a 50in flat screen television's cost versus a book's cost in the Nook's Cranny store is now roughly equivalent to the same difference between those two items in real life, it gets kind of annoying to read lol. A lot of the changes or updates like that are there for a reason. Things are expensive in the game because you're supposed to work at achieving a financial status in the game large enough to be able to purchase them. Games are supposed to be a challenge. I'll complain about the lack of gyroids and furniture sets all day, I'm pretty guilty of getting a little disappointed in things like that but those are at least things that could be improved, and I always try to word it more as constructive criticism than just a complaint.

I mean every game I play there tends to be a group that bash it regardless. Especially games with sequels since they have something to compare it to the expectation is enormous at the time of release or as the game progresses. So I'm not surprise there would be some negative press to it.

This is the only ac community i am part of, but i joined other communities dedicated to other games and i saw what you are describing especially with games that are part of a series. I am used to it now even though i used to be bothered when i thought people were being unfair to a game i like, or too harsh. I still get bothered by it sometimes to be honest lol, but i probably shouldnt. I also miss the gems we had in nl because i liked using them to customize furniture, so i guess what is considered a nitpick to someone is not so to another.

I have some dissatisfaction with the game but I also have a lot of enjoyment playing it. So between negativity and positivity, I choose to focus on things that make me happy. If something in the game frustrates me, I stop playing for a while and do something else. I don't come here everyday to rant. I know it helps to talk about your feelings. However, don't complain & whine & find fault with every little thing. I see some people never seem to like anything about the game and all the updates. For example, the bunny day event. I don't understand all the complaints I read about it. Too many eggs, too many balloons, too many this and that, bunny looks scary will murder you bla bla bla.. Are we playing the same game? I don't know..

It's human nature for people to turn minor faults into major issues. I don't have a single complaint about this game that would cause me to rant and drag it through the mud. To me, there are opportunities for improvement, but the game is so damn good as it is.

Bunny Day was kind of just like the other events from the previous games, but honestly one day would had sufficed. I'm not a fan of the long drawn out events.

I think what most people are bothered by is how the game isn't complete after 5 months. Had I known it was going to be slowly dripfed I would had probably waited a year or so to get the game when more stuff is available. It's cool that the game is getting monthly updates and all (but it's all stuff that was available from the beginning in other games.

Through the years of playing all the titles, AC is one of those games you play daily/occasionally for the first few months and than it slowly trickles to when you're not playing it at all. I know quite a few of my friends who are done with AC and it's kind of sad since the game hasn't even released all the basic stuff.

I also wasn't a fan of how the beginning scripted tutorial played out. Felt less chill and more stressful busywork that I didn't find fun. There are definitely things I like about the game. I just think it could be better.

Honestly, with a community as large as the Animal Crossing community, you're bound to find a range of differing opinions on the game. Keep in mind that AC:NH discords, or discussion boards, or any forum aren't just there for people who love Animal Crossing and who don't have any complaints with the game. They're for anyone who has something to say about the game, positive or negative.

Especially as it is a product (and an expensive one at that), people should be able to discuss the game in the way that they like. We will all like, and dislike different parts of the game. A change that wasn't a big deal to me might have affected someone else in a big way, and I try to be cognizant of that. Because there are so many ways to experience Animal Crossing, it's natural that changes may have affected some people's play styles more than others.

There is of course something to be said about toxic negativity (and toxic positivity) and in remaining respectful and polite in your discussions with others!

New Horizons could be perfect and people would still complain. It’s obvious that stuff is being slowly added in so I don’t get what the big deal is. I think I like the updates instead of everything already being in the game. As soon as I start getting bored there’s an update to bring me back. Most of the people I’ve seen complain are already tting to winter for diys and stuff like chill. Lol

I agree that people can be too negative about certain things in NH. Giving your thoughts is one thing, but complaining about every little detail is another. I've listed what I don't like about NH on here- but I still believe that the pros outweigh the cons!

I'm sure that with new updates on the way, the game itself will improve significantly in the long run.

There's a difference between being negative and being constructive. I've seen nothing on this forum but constructive comments on what's wrong with the game and how it can be made better and I think that's fabulous.

I think people should stop being so sensitive.
If someone posts aspects of the game they don't like, it doesn't affect you directly.

Just let others respectfully have their opinion(s), rather than creating a topic to nitpick over how you feel they are nitpicking. :)

there definitely ARE issues with the game, but that's because they published an unfinished game to release it when they promised

but I do feel like nowadays people expect way too much out of games lol
if it isn't perfect the moment you receive it, it's boring and bad

and a lot of the people around here are just pointing out flaws with the game, which is fine, but then others do seem a bit too... critical lol

that's my opinion, anyways : P

I could not agree with this more! I know some people see not enjoying reading endless nitpicking criticism as over-sensitivity, but to me it is just the opposite. Every time threads devolve into (what some may see as ) incessant whining and someone complains I see people getting upset, responding as if they are being censored and/or telling everyone to ‘toughen up’ and deal with it. The most sensitive people to criticism always seem to be the biggest complainers. If you have a right to complain about stuff that bothers you so does everyone else.

Some of the criticism is fair and even interesting to discuss, but I don’t know how constructive I consider any of it, since this is not a Nintendo forum (and esp considering Nintendo is a Japanese company and the big design decisions are made by the Japanese team). Yes, I’m sure they are aware of the forum but I don’t think they are coming here for feedback or using the commentary to make changes to the game (if anyone knows different please enlighten me).

And that is fine! Criticism does not have to be constructive to be valid. But criticism also doesn’t get a special pass on being criticized or disagreed with.

Like @Dunquixote said the only time I have a problem with the complaints is if you are going into people’s positivity threads just to play Debbie downer. Just let people enjoy things!

Look, while the constant updates are annoying to me, it is a really good game and some of the issues may very well be changed in future updates. Even if they don’t, there’s no denying that it is a great game. It can be fun to nitpick it at times but only in measure and making sure that it doesn’t ruin the player experience in any way by noticing all of its faults. If people like to critic games with a close lens there’s nothing wrong with that as long as it doesn’t ruin the game for everyone else. I don’t have a problem with this at all.

Even I point out a few negative things occasionally but that’s not my goal when playing the game. It’s okay to give feedback to make it better but not in a way to bring down the developers who made it. I’m that kind of person who wants to stay positive as much as possible so I focus on the good things that the game has to offer. Maybe if we could try to cut down a little bit being on social media and perhaps this forum as well, we might have a different view of New Horizons and not always jumping on popular opinions.

The game is still pretty incomplete. It's strange to me because I remember seeing a lot of people have negative opinions about New Leaf. Maybe I was looking at the wrong kind of people, I don't know. But now it gets more praise than New Horizons. I suspect it'll repeat whenever the new Animal Crossing game comes out.
