I'm looking to get your opinion on paths do you have them or not? I'm getting tempted to remove all the ones I put down because I just cant seem to get them they way I really want it and its getting to be a hassle even with the money rocks.

i put some down just to guide me as i wear down the grass,
after i get the grass worn down im going to remove all my paths !

i need to get some more flowers to border off the natural paths though~

I really wanted to give the dirt paths a try this time but I put down formal paths last night. My grass was rapidly turning in to a big brown ugly mush. Even though I'd placed kind of stepping stones to lead the way, people just didn't stick to them the way they seem to stick to paths when they visit.

I keep paths mostly for visitors. They lead to the main areas of town that anyone would need to go to so my flowers don't get crushed. That and if you get the right style, they can look really nice.

I love paths. o-o They just gotta be good... I prefer bordered ones usually.

I find paths useful. If people only walk on the parts that are covered up then the big brown path underneath isn't seen, meanwhile, the flowers and grass all around it can grow back without being trampled. I understand where you're coming from, though, for awhile i saw it as a hassle too, but ultimately, it makes things more organized not only for myself, but for my visitors. Plus, removing them and replacing them once a villager moves in/out is handy.

I don't use pattern paths. Instead, I line walkways with lots and lots (and lots) of shrubs and let the dirt paths form.

I really like the way the worn dirt paths show footprints - especially nice when your character is wandering around barefoot.

I put down paths to guide the wearing patterns. I will eventually have flowers and shrubs bordering them, so will eventually pick them up...but I am pleased with them right now.

I use paths, not a fan of just letting dirt paths form but alot of people like the natural look, you can get the natural look with paths though, I'm currently waiting to unlock the sewing machine so I can get an uneven cobblestone path that blends with the grass.

Looks very natural rather than brick paths ^^

But again, alot of people prefer the brick paths, it's all personal preference.

Actually apparently they do prevent grass deterioration, as far I have heard, everywhere.

You can still hear which sort of ground you are walking on through them though, I've just got my game so I dunno for certain.

Someone better tell my game that because the paths are forming under the patterns, right where I want them. I think I'll believe what I see happening over the "everwhere." Might I suggest some trials of your own?

I say yes to paths. I'm too tired at the moment from working out in my backyard all morning, so I'm not going to make a big paragraph to explain why I think paths are amazing. But I will do something to explain, and that something is a list. |D

- They make it easier to navigate through the town. Not only for you, but for guests especially.
- They look wonderful, if you use the right pattern(s).
- It adds an extra touch of your personality to the town. After all, you picked them over any other design. It shows your taste in a subtle way, and I think that's pretty neat.
- No, they don't STOP grass deterioration, but they do make it neater. Instead of ugly, nasty random patches of dirt, you'll get crisp clean lines, and turns, from using the paths so much. Eventually it will get worn down so much that you could remove the patterns and have dirt paths. And if you don't want dirt paths, simply keep the patterns down. No one will know there's dirt underneath. (:

I have played every version of Animal Crossing and have never used paths. Not even in New Leaf. I like that it looks like I have my own underdeveloped chunk of the world to myself and my villagers. I'm also very lazy, but I plant a ton of flowers where I want the grass to grow back and it seems to work fairly well.

I have no complaints of living a path-free life.

My paths are placed moderately.
Some towns are pretty much covered in tiles to replace grass or surround pretty much every single object in the game. Although they look nice I would never want my town like that because I love all my trees, they give my town a foresty kind of feel.

My town is still new so dirt paths havent really started to form yet, I have patterns down, when the paths start to form i'll check under the patterns and let you know.

NVM there's the answer xD

I've never used paths in any of my previous games and opted to in this one so I could try to rebuild my pitiful grass. I adore them now. I like the way my town looks now.

I also never used paths in previous AC games, but in New Leaf I decided to give them a try. My town is literally covered in patterns, and I love it. It makes your town more 'you' and personalized.
