I have an “avenue“ that is 3 squares but the rest are mostly 2 square paths so they can line up with bridges and inclines. Even if they are a bit wider like a 4sq path, I will usually have items on the sides that make the walkable area 2sq.
I am a 2 square path person although recently I am using a version of 'the path' and I find that the 1 square looks more pleasing to me. I am currently marking out my island for terraforming but as a rule of thumb I plan to always leave 2 squares of walkable area.
Most of mine are all two wide, since it seems the most appropriate and takes up the least amount of space, so I can easily fit my paths around my builds and areas. Sometimes they do seem a little narrow, so I have thought about changing a lot of them to 3 wide instead just to make it feel a bit chunkier, but that would take way too much effort for me, and i'd have to move around a lot of my builds so it's not really worth it. I do have one 4 tile-wide path in my campsite area, but both side tiles have furniture like mush lamps and log benches on them, so it's still really 2 wide. I just like having the path grow out to the sides there, since it makes it look more natural to me. I definitely wouldn't want 4 wide paths all along my island though, they would look so weird and out of place, especially with the bridges since they would be wider than them and not line up properly either.
I am referring to walking on the paths through the island.
I have a large path, and I haven’t numbered them, in the front of my island. The airport. Residential Services (which is close). And I will be going to work on design in this area. But, that is what I have set up (so far).
mine are 4 for smaller roads and uh....8 for main roads i use a street + footpath set of patterns and like to put down a lot of roadside clutter though. i have one or two alleyways that are 2 tiles wide...narrow paths feel so cramped to me but some people make it work imo!
Single-width, meandering paths look really nice to me they're my favorite visually, but I make mine 2 squares wide now. I was having way too many issues getting stuck on villagers and struggling through tourneys with single width paths. I found it was functionally taking away from my enjoyment of the game a bit, so now that I'm redoing everything I'll use single width paths very sparingly. However, single width paths can still be functional and not frustrating, just not with the way I was setting things up and decorating with country fencing and trees on either side.
I do 2 squares. Maybe 3 if it's leading it a building and I want it to be even. I'm pretty sure you have to make it 3 if you want the path to be even leading to a villager house.
