I tried googling this, but came up short on information, as many sources only talk of passing them via streetpass. However, I've noticed on this forum, people have mentioned in passing that when they visited another town for trades or other reasons, they sometimes are surprised with a new villager the next day (if they had an open slot).

I'd like more details on this as someone who wanted my villager, Eugene, unfortunately could not make it in time to pick him up. They have the open slot, however, so I want to help pass it to them still. From what I gather, passing a villager this way is unreliable, but it SEEMS like its possible based on some complaints of people randomly getting unwanted villagers from trades.

Any information or experiences with this would be appreciated.

I think as long as you've not wifi-ed or streetpassed anybody since Eugene left, he'll still be in your "wifi pool". So the next person you visit (or who visits you) may have a chance of getting him if they have an open slot.

i believe it keeps your last 3 voided villagers in the wifi pool, so he might get Eugene or he might get another one of your past villagers. You can try visiting him first and then he comes to your town and visit and see if he gets Eugene.

Exactly like you said, it's unreliable but possible. But both posts above are correct: your outbox will dump to the very first person you wifi or streetpass so if they aren't the first there's no chance; and assuming your outbox hasn't been dumped, it is holding the last 3 voided villagers. So if you have more than one, they will get one at random.

So if you haven't wifi'd or streetpassed since he was voided, you can give it a shot -- you can visit them or they can visit you, either one will work.

There is a 50/50 chance that he will get Eug?ne. The wifi pool is really tricky

Me and my flatmate hadn't streetpassed for a couple of days, and I got her voided Tex today and he was the last one who left her town :( so I'm not too sure what the odds are but it's definitely possible

My story ended up having a happy ending; I was JUST about to move on to my next day, as I couldn't wait any longer when she JUST got online. I was a few button presses from loading up my town which would have send Eugene away, haha! She has him now. :)

Thanks for the information though; if it does keep my last three villagers, then I suppose if we did do this method, she would have only a 50-50 chance to get him. (of my moved out villagers, only Iggly was never given to someone that I know of) Still, I'm glad to know it isn't a myth. Would love to still hear people's stories/experiences with this though, as there is a real lack of information out there.

i'm thinking if you voided 3 villagers, its 33% chance to get the one you want
2 = 50%
1 = 100%

The thing I'm curious about is if i have 7 villagers and I took one of their voided villagers but it wasn't the one I wanted, can i try again now with a 50% chance because they have 2 left in their void? and if i also don't get the villager, try again but now with 100% chance? did anyone try this method?

From what I've heard, once you've connected, that clears both of your wifi pools so the other villagers that haven't been picked up are REALLY in the void this time.

Like summ3rain said, every connection dumps the outbox completely. To be honest, anyone who connects regularly isn't likely to have more than one villager in the outbox because they are dumping it regularly. The downside is that it makes collecting a voided villager tricky -- the upside is that if you need to empty your outbox, it's easy enough to just visit someone with 10 villagers and safely dump it!
