I don't understand Rosie's popularity. She's not ugly, but she's pretty plain looking compared to the other cat villagers imo.

Lolly is so popular and she doesn't even have a unique design. To each their own though.
Hm... I gotta say Beau. I had him in my town once, and I do get it don't get me wrong he looks like a sleepy deer and I understand some people find that cute. But I don't understand why all the hype, I don't want to completely slash on Beau because I know he's a couple of users' favourite villager. But I'm not a big fan of his design, I had him in town and I found him boring and not as cute as I thought I would find him. The deers just kind of put me off in general, and it's not just Beau but he seems to be one of the most popular. It's just he looks a little bald to me, like seriously if you imagine him without his antelopes he looks a little bald. His design is a little plain to me if i'm honest. He's nothing special to me personally, but he might be to other users and I respect that. I have villagers other users don't like either, but to me I find them appealing.

Marshal might the most overrated villager ever, or at least on this forum. I'm not saying I don't like him, but I'm not obsessed with him. He's just a white squirrel with a cool design. That's all he is to me. lol
Now, the ones I least dislike are Julian, Pietro, and Coco. Julian's name reminds of the lemur from the Madagascar movies, and Pietro and Coco are just creepy. I hate clowns, and Coco just looks soulless.

one popular one i really dislike is actually Beau. I just found him really annoying most of the time. He was always asking me to do errands for him, mainly involving me needing to run around to get a lot of stuff. And he asked me to do something like every time I saw him. He didn't have NEARLY the same amazingness as Zucker. Also, when I tried grinding for public work projects, he never gave me a public work project, like ever. He was really disappointing as a popular villager for me, and truthfully, i was very glad when he left. The only good thing I could say about him is that in my town, he put his house in a pretty decent spot. Well, I guess everyone has different preferences of villagers, so I respect anyone else's feelings toward him.

I've never cared for Julian. I don't like his design that much (I think the horse design is odd looking) and he's just so boring... I feel the same way about Colten.

I think the most overrated villager I've ever had is Julian. Jacques is a way better smug and it is a crime how underrated he is. I have Lolly and Goldie who are pretty popular, but I like them so I don't consider them too overrated.

Personally, I think Lolly, Diana, Rosie, Marshal, and Julian are waaaaaaaaaaaaay to overrated.

I don't know who is so per popular but I can tell you who I dislike of mine. I find Drake, Benjamin, Maelle, & Diana super annoying. Of those Drake annoys me the least after I changed his catch phrase to "Duck Yeah!" Which amuses me greatly!
Of the ones that don't annoy me too badly are Nibblet, Alice, Graham, and Grizzly. Nibblet says aww nuts! As her catch phrase and is always glad to see me. Alice is adorable. Graham is super awkward and grizzly is so gruff.

I don't understand Diana's popularity. She looks really ugly and she seems like that one girl at school that's "the popular one". I also think Beau is an ugly train wreck. Fight me. And while I definitely love cats, I don't understand what makes Ankha better than the other cat villagers. Sure, she's Egyptian based, but so is Lucky, and he doesn't get nearly as much love (not to say people don't like him but still).
Now, I actually had Marshal. He was a pretty enjoyable villager, because he was actually pretty cool to me. I was kinda sad he moved out, mainly because all the money I could have made off of him, but also because he was pretty nice. Although it wasn't his whole sulky thing that made me appreciate him, his design definitely made me like him more than some other smugs.
