Do you sometimes look on the Trading Plaza and think, why in the world do so many people want that Villager for SO MUCH MONEY...

for example, I absolutely hate Stitches.. I had him in one town and every time I talked to him he just seemed stupid, so I don't understand why everyone likes him so much... Plus he just looks stupid, kinda like Peaches too, but she isn't as popular

Tell me any other experiences or thoughts you've had about this, or list villagers you think don't get enough credit!

These threads are annoying -.-

Everyone has different opinions on villagers and there's always going to be popular villagers that certain people don't like. There's also going to be unpopular villagers that are loved by certain people.

People pay a lot for them because they really want them in their towns. It's important to some people, and if they don't mind paying that many bells then of course they're going to pay that many.

I think all of the tier one villagers are "overrated," but that doesn't mean I don't like them. I like a lot of them. There aren't any villagers that I absolutely hate though. I don't care enough for that. :/

If you find this thread annoying then why post anything? lol

OT:
That egyptian cat, Julian and Stitches all really annoy me. I don't like any of their designs, especially Julian's.

These threads are getting really repetitive, there's probably one of these every week. I think that most Tier 1 villagers are overrated but if people like them, I don't really care.

True, these threads come up all the time, but if the OP wants to talk about the subject starting a new thread is practically a necessity because if he/she used an older one people would then complain about thread necro-ing.

*shrugs*

Still, it's fine to talk about whatever. We all have our personal views about villagers. It can be fun, sometimes, to find out reasons people like or dislike specific ones. Well, as long as people don't get too uptight or heated about it.

WELL SORRY! I haven't seen any of these threads so chill out! And when you keep seeing Stitches being sold every ten seconds for 20 million bells, you come up with ideas to pass the time while you pray someone puts up something original.... and clearly there is something appealing to Stitches and all other overly desired people, so sorry for wanting some insight into that. yes people like certain villagers and thats why I put my favorite villagers in my town (way to shed some light on that issue) but I was wondering why some of these guys go for sooooo much, I love Tangy, but dropping 20 million? thats insane... and yeah, if you have seen this a zillion times, sip your hatorade on the Plaza Trading Thread while you sell your Bell Life Savings for another Ankha.. I will be here HAVING FUN, which is the point of Animal Crossing, not to make satirical and rude comments on internet boards

lol you're being pretty hypocritical considering you started this thread by saying Stitches is ugly and you don't understand why people would pay tons of bells for a villager. those are rude comments

But honestly, you can of course talk about whatever you want c:
These threads just get a little annoying because they pop up everywhere and they're sort of rude. They often just turn into or start out as villager-bashing threads, which isn't very positive or friendly since everyone has different villager tastes. I'm sure that's not what you intended though, and I understand that you haven't noticed these threads before, so just letting you know.

Dropping 20 mil isn't insane for the people who have millions of bells. To some that's a great deal! And so that's why they're sold for so high. Because some people have lots and lots of bells to go around.
Sorry if any of the replies (including mine) offended you! I'm sure no one meant any offense (I personally didn't). People just get annoyed with these threads is all. Don't take it personally ~ ^^

I personally don't see a problem with these threads. All the OP wants is opinions, to, you know, discuss. That's what threads are for, discussion. If you don't like the topic being discussed then ignore it. Pretty simple really.

Anyway, back on topic. I find Marshal to be WAY too overrated. Yes, I have him in my town, and yes, I adore him. But people sacrifice so many bells just to get him, I don't see how he's that much worth. I've heard that sometimes people fight over him on auctions. He's just a cute little white squirrel. Nothing to go crazy and fight over!

I also think Beau is overrated. I have NEVER saw the appeal in Beau. He looks so... idk, boring? Yeah he's cute but so many people fangirl over him, I don't see how he's that appealing. I'm not hating on him at all btw, I find him cute so please don't get offended.

I think Phoebe is overrated. Only because I don't particularly like the ostriches >~<

And finally, Merengue. Rarely anyone liked the rhinos before. The only thing that gets people going is that strawberry and whip cream on her head. It doesn't make much of a difference to me, I still view all the rhinos as fat and ugly.

Sorry if I offended anyone, those are just my views >~<

I think it's an odd term - overrated, because to someone who likes a certain villager they cannot be overrated. They like that villager. To those who don't they may appear to be overrated. The term seems to really say, "If I don't like so-and-so, they are overrated."

But...maybe not. That's how most seem to use the term, tho. I think it should be scrapped. It doesn't come to really mean anything, really, and people will like who they like regardless of terminology, especially when said terminology is...overrated? :)

I do like sometimes seeing the appeal people see in a certain villager. It sometimes makes me see that villager in a new light. It won't change my own preferences, but I enjoy understanding what others may see in him/her.

SIMPLE: People find them cute. In my opinion, if the only thing you want to complain about on this forum is "overrated villagers", you need to get over yourself.

Also, to some people, getting villagers THEY like ('overrated' or not.) is fun. The point of animal crossing is to relax, which is easier when you have villagers you like.

Lmao, most of the villagers I prefer are in the lower tiers actually. In any case, there's pretty much only items or villagers to spend money on when trading with other players, so why not go all out?

I'm pretty sure there's a phenomena where when lots of people want the same villager at one point, those villagers get a value in a sense of that they seemingly become trophies in peoples towns because they're so popular. Certain people (not all) want them because they're popular, not because they like them so much. When another person enters your town they'll be like 'Wow, you have Marshal!'. Obtaining those villagers can be quite a journey (even though you'd be surprised how difficult it is to obtain some of the T5 villagers), which probably adds to the fun (even though people may not immidiately consider it fun when they cannot get ahold of that one villager).

Discussing opinions about individual villagers is pretty much futile, because everyone sees different villagers in different ways (and all those views are all valid). I love it when people pick their own villagers in their town so that when I visit I meet new combinations of villagers. It does sometimes get a bit repetitive to see the same ten T1 villagers in a few towns when visitting, but heck, if a person wants that setup in their town for whatever reason they should do it.

Greets~

Really? People really get villagers they don't want just as trophies? Is that really true or just a supposition, I wonder? It just sounds bizarre to me and I haven't seen any evidence yet that this is true, tho it may well be.

The the chase adding to the fun may be the reason if the villager trophy collecting thing is true.

For most the human mind is a mysterious thing. Many people have a tendency to follow whatever the masses do or think.

I'm not saying they do not like the villagers at all. I would say that the popularity boosts specific villagers to a position where they seem more interesting than they would've been for people if they would've been T5.

I can, however, not tell wether a person makes a choice for one reason or another. It's just a theory backed up with a feeling anyways.

Anyone can have this reaction. It's about people's tastes. And there will be villagers one perceives as overrated or underrated. It ultimately comes down to just keeping yourself focused on how you, yourself, play "Animal Crossing: New Leaf." This includes your town's/towns' cast of villagers.

I can definitely see that... those type of people lose the big picture of this game, which was to make something that isn't about finishing a quest, saving the princess, or getting all the achievements... its about living your life and having fun! and you want to surround yourself with the people you like, get along with, and find interesting. But it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg for that... so I feel bad for the ones who personally love Stitches, but shouldn't have to pay so much for him! However, where there is a niche, theres people to exploit that and I guess that's why all this has transpired... this thread got way deeper than I thought lol

WHOA! someone's mad I bashed their dreamie! because you clearly didn't read my post, because I said I understand liking someone cause you like the design and talked about the main gist of this game... and as someone who has been vocal about trying to get O'hare the last few days, I know all about the chase for lower tier villagers.... don't start stuff
